Resident Spotlight: Ingrid M. was born in 1933 to Wilhelm and Hedwig F. in Falkenwald, Germany, where she grew up on a farm and developed a love for animals—especially horses. From the age of seven, she helped by milking cows daily. During the war, her family was forced to leave their farm, and frequent moves made schooling difficult. She left school after 5th grade but taught herself math and remains excellent with numbers. Ingrid is the only one from her family to migrate to the U.S.
In the early 1950s, Ingrid arrived in New York, where she met her husband Mike, a painter. They married in December 1955 and later welcomed their son, Johnny, in 1958, who became the joy of her life. Ingrid worked as a nanny and housekeeper, later retiring in her 70s.
She enjoys gardening, animals, nature, music, old movies, and traveling with her senior club to casinos. Some of her favorite foods include vanilla ice cream, pizza, seafood on City Island, and spending time with family and friends.
Her family describes her as strong, caring, generous, and always supportive, with favorite sayings like, “It could always be worse” and “It will be ok in the end; you have to work through it.”
