Did you know your body has its very own in-built de-stressing mechanism? 😱

It’s called the ✨ VAGUS NERVE ✨

The vagus nerve is the most influential nerve in our parasympathetic nervous system, which oversees a vast array of crucial bodily functions, including control of mood, immune response, digestion, breathing and heart rate. It is the primary pathway that your gut and brain communicate through!

When we stimulate the vagus nerve, it sends a message to our bodies that it’s time to relax, de-stress and go into repair and recover mode 🛌

There are a number of different things we can do to stimulate our vagus nerve such as:

Is it closed or open? Unless you’re in the middle of sentence or eating a grass-fed burger on a sourdough bun, it should be closed!!!! ⠀

Breath is part of life!! After it all it’s inextricable to every environment. Giving birth, falling in love, running a marathon. Breath reflects it all. ⠀

But chronic mouth breathing is where things go array. It can cause dry mouth, which in turn increases the risk of dental disease. It deprives the body of air filtration (which occurs with nose breathing) that reduces possible allergens. There’s also a reduction in nitric oxide production, stimulated by nose breathing, which benefits overall health. ⠀

No more mouth breathing. Only the nose. And if you’re breathing through your mouth because your nose is always stopped up, well that needs to be addressed immediately!!
