A warm welcome to Eleanor Guzik!

Eleanor was born in Spokane, Washington. As a young child she moved to many interesting areas of the country, including Fairbanks, Alaska. Her life changed forever when she met her husband Richard in middle school. They married when Eleanor graduated high school.

Eleanor and Richard ’s marriage produced five children, including two sets of twins. Once her kids were all in school, Eleanor returned to her education and became a registered nurse. Most of her early nursing was done in an intensive care unit. Always one to seek a challenge, she returned to school and became a nurse practitioner.

Eleanor and Richard both retired in their fifty’s and then hit the road. They traveled to all parts of the United States in their motor home. After nearly five years of nomad living, they decided to settle in their Ventura home. Eleanor learned how to play the harp, served on a Grand Jury, volunteered at a hospice and started her long Red Cross volunteer career.

In her 15 years of Red Cross volunteering, Eleanor rose to disaster services leadership duties. She was active in the local and national Red Cross programs. Eleanor was called to many disasters, providing essential services and training to other caregivers. She received national recognition for her contributions (Anne Magnuson Award).

Eleanor’s husband Richard passed away several years ago. Since then, she has traveled with her children, took up walking and binge-watching Survivor. She moved to the Ventura Townehouse to be more active and also to be spoiled by having someone cook and clean for her.

Introducing Author Ivon Blum!

Townehouse resident Ivon Blum is a retired Los Angeles lawyer who has been researching and writing about the American Southwest for more than 20 years. He has hiked and fly-fished many of the rivers in Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona. He’s a member of Western Writers of America and the Cambria Writers' Workshop.

Ivon is known for combining historical precision with immersive storytelling. His previous works include “River of Souls,” exploring the American Myth, and “Code Talkers,” focusing on Navajo Code Talkers during WWII. Ivon researched this book through firsthand interviews and community immersion. In addition, his book “Inquest in Zion" tells a fictional story based on the real-life Mountain Meadows Massacre of 1857.

He is an avid sailor and historical fiction enthusiast, citing authors like C.S. Forester, Patrick O'Brian, Alexander Kent, and Dudley Pope as inspirations.

"Happiness is the tiller of your boat in one hand and a fly rod in the other," he said, reflecting the spirit that describes much of his writing. Ivon’s newest novel, “Rocket’s Red Glare,” is a sea-faring story set in 1812.

You can find all of Ivon’s books on Amazon.

Say hello to Harriet Curry

I was born in Pennsylvania and my family, including two brothers, moved to California in 1947. After high school and then college I taught school.

In 1950 I married, and we had two children. We divorced but remained friends. Sometime later I remarried, and we traveled a great deal. My favorite trip was to China seeing the Yangtze River and the Great Dam.

After my husband passed away, I continued teaching - 35 years in all.
I have two children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

At one time I lived up the street from the Townehouse and I always said if
I went into a retirement home it would be here. A little-known fact is during my teaching years I also worked, after school, in the service area here at the Townehouse in the Dining Room. “It’s a great life if you don’t weaken!”
