Day 15. What are nail tests for? Just like hair, nail clippings can be collected and send to the lab to test for alcohol or drug use. The nails need to be clean and chemical free, long enough to get sufficient material. It is just as good as hair, might even be slightly better. The problem with hair is that a lot of people have very short hair or chemically treated.

Dry blood spots can be used to verify abstinence from alcohol for up to 21 days, it comes to be much more cost efficient than urine testing for 3 weeks and provides coverage over the entire time. Day 13. Urine drug testing. When people need to test, it may be to verify sobriety if they are in treatment, pre employment, family court custody disputes, or if asked by family members. "Drug testing" is a term that includes alcohol! Sometimes people take offense with the term saying they are not drug addicts. Drug is a general term and does not imply abuse if you need to test. However, testing for oyher substances is important because some drinkers may switch to other substances. Hence, having a panel including other substances, gives more meaning to the results when the result is negative.
