🚨 Trauma Tuesday 🚨
🧠 March is Brain Injury Awareness Month

Motor Vehicle Collisions (MVCs) are one of the leading causes of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) seen in emergency departments across the country. In just seconds, a crash can change a life forever.

At Wilbarger General Hospital, we see firsthand how preventable many of these injuries are.

Protect your brain. Protect your life.

✔️ Always wear your seatbelt – reduces risk of serious brain injury by up to 50%
✔️ Avoid distracted driving – texting, eating, or adjusting controls can wait
✔️ Never drive under the influence – alcohol and drugs significantly increase crash risk
✔️ Follow speed limits – higher speeds = higher impact = greater injury severity
✔️ Ensure proper child restraints – car seats and boosters save lives

💡 Did you know?
Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death and serious injury in the U.S., and TBIs are among the most severe outcomes.

🩺 Our Message:
Most traumatic brain injuries from car crashes are preventable. A simple decision—like buckling your seatbelt—can be the difference between walking away and a life-altering injury.

Stay alert. Stay safe. Protect your brain.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month 💙

Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers with regular screening—yet many people delay or avoid it. Early detection can save lives!

✔️ If you’re 45 or older, talk to your provider about screening

✔️ Know the signs: changes in bowel habits, blood in stool, unexplained weight loss, or persistent abdominal discomfort

✔️ Maintain a healthy lifestyle—eat well, stay active, and don’t ignore symptoms

We’re also excited to share advancements in screening options like Shield™ by Guardant Health—a simple blood test that may help detect colorectal cancer earlier, offering a more convenient option for those who may be hesitant about traditional screenings. The blood draw can be conveniently completed at Wilbarger General Hospital. Talk to your provider to see if it’s right for you.

Let’s break the stigma and start the conversation. Your health matters!

🚑 Trauma Tuesday | Brain Injury Awareness Month 🧠

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month, and this week we’re focusing on one of the leading causes of injury in our community—falls.

Falls are the #1 cause of injury-related Emergency Department visits, accounting for nearly one-third of all cases. Among older adults, they are the leading cause of traumatic injuries, resulting in about 3 million ED visits each year—many involving hip fractures and traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

At Wilbarger General Hospital, falls are the most common trauma we treat in the Emergency Department.

💡 Trauma Tip Tuesday: Prevent Falls Before They Happen

• Remove clutter and loose rugs
• Improve lighting in all areas of the home

• Get vision and hearing checked routinely
• Review medications for side effects like dizziness

🚨 Community Safety Reminder from Wilbarger General Hospital 🚨
With the high winds in our area, blowing dust can quickly create dangerous driving conditions and low visibility. Please use extra caution if you must travel.
• Slow down and allow extra distance between vehicles
• Turn on your headlights in low visibility
• Be alert for emergency vehicles and do not block or impede their path
If you hear about a fire in your area, please do not drive out to watch or investigate the scene. Extra traffic can delay firefighters and emergency responders who are trying to reach the area quickly and safely.
Your cooperation helps ensure that first responders can do their jobs and keep our community safe. Stay safe and be mindful on the roads today.
