Hockanum Valley Community Council honors the life and legacy of David Engelson, former Chief Executive Officer, whose passing is deeply felt by all who knew him and by the many lives touched through his work.
David devoted his career to service, leading Hockanum Valley Community Council with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering belief in the dignity and potential of every individual. As CEO, he provided steady and principled leadership, guiding the organization with vision and care while remaining firmly rooted in its mission to support and strengthen the community.
David was a leader who listened deeply, acted thoughtfully, and led with humility. He valued collaboration and mutual respect, fostering a culture where staff, volunteers, and partners felt supported and inspired. His commitment to leadership and community-centered decision-making helped shape HVCC into a trusted and resilient organization.
Beyond his professional achievements, David will be remembered for his kindness, generosity of spirit, and genuine concern for others. He understood that meaningful change begins with compassion, and he carried that belief into every aspect of his work.
Though David is no longer with us, his legacy endures in the programs he helped build, and the countless individuals and families whose lives were improved through his dedication. We are profoundly grateful for his service.
