This fall, we completed the planting of a new pollinator garden at our Sweet Sixty facility.
Designed by our sister company Cherrylake, Inc. and installed by their construction team, the garden brings together native Florida plants such as Bee Balm, Sage Salvia and Manyflower Beardtongue. This planting repurposed what used to be a drainfield with weeds into a beautiful place that both team members and pollinators can enjoy.
Since the garden is planted in a drain field, we couldn't plant anything heavy or with deep roots. Citrus trees were planted above ground in recycled citrus crates, arranged in a layout mimicking a grove, to tie in with the citrus theme. We received limes in these crates from our partner growers in Colombia. Rather than throw them out, we sealed them and had liners installed to host the citrus trees.
We’ve supported pollinator health in our groves for years through cover cropping and responsible pest management. Now, with native pollinator gardens at our headquarters, CUPS site, and packinghouse, we're continuing to create spaces that reflect the same values we bring to our groves. We’re excited to share in the spring once it grows in! 🦋
