I posted this on my feed...thought I’d share.
Just some thoughts 🤷♀️
The words “Essential” and “Non Essential” have become quite the topic of conversation these days.
I am a licensed massage therapist. I hold a license from the Board of Health in the state of Florida. Every 2 years I am required to continue my education by way of 24 credit hours to maintain that license.
I am considered a healthcare professional.
However when it came down to it I was considered “non-essential” and basically asked to stop practicing by the Governor in an effort to help stop the spread of Covid19.
Since I work primarily with seniors and cancer patients that was immediate for me. But in doing so I had to step away from my clients that felt I was “essential”.
I was helping keep their pain and overall discomfort to a tolerable level. I was “essential” to them.
I have friends that work in different areas of what’s considered “nonessential” now. A lot of them are self-employed. Self-employed because we had a purpose and the only way to get out there and help people was to be on your own. Paving the way.
And now we are considered a burden to the state because they don’t know what to do with us.
We don’t count, so they aren’t used to having to worry about us. Self-employed people are just as important as company employed people and I am sad to see that a lot of my colleagues and some friends are going to lose their businesses because we don’t count.
Can’t get a business loan, can’t get unemployment, just sink ...
Every self-employed business is “essential” to somebody.
Your hairdresser, your nail tech, your Lyft driver, your favorite little flower shop on the corner.
It’s just wrong that some of these folks may not ever recover from this because they can’t check the magic box on the application that makes them “Essential” to the state.
So once this is all over, make that appointment with your hairdresser, nail tech, massage therapist etc
They are going to need your help to get back to normal💜
Hang in there!! 🙏🙏🙏
