The stretching of the scar tissue helps to align the collagen fibers to allow them to return to normal. This realignment of the collagen fibers makes the tissue better able to tolerate the forces that are placed on it during the day.

Scar tissue can form postsurgery when tissue damaged internally , or externally. In the early stages, scar tissue isn't always painful. This is because nerves in the area may have been destroyed along with healthy body tissues. But over time, scar tissue may become painful as nerve endings regenerate.
If scar tissue forms around a stitch from surgery it's called a suture granuloma and also feels like a lump. if treated properly, the scar tissue can be remolded to resemble normal, healthy tissue – reducing any pain and restoring normal tissue behavior in any area of the body.
