March 1 marks the first day of TURTLE SEASON on the Treasure Coast! 🐢

Here are the 5 most important rules of turtle season:

1) NO LIGHTS. No flash photography or flash lights. This causes a series of problems for both nesting turtles and hatchlings. DM for information about use of more safe red lights.
2) If you see a nesting turtle, be still and quiet. If you disturb the momma looking to nest, she may retreat back to the water, prolonging her vital nesting.
3) NEVER touch a turtle - nesting or hatchling! Do not pick up or even help babies on their way to the water. Crawling on their own helps instinct, strength, and survival
4) Do not disturb nests whether marked or unmarked in any way.
5) Keep the beach clean and flat! Fill in any holes that you may have dug during your time in the sun as holes and piles become obstacles.

If you find hatchlings going the wrong way (toward roads/parking lots): don’t intervene physically—call FWC Law Enforcement: 1-888-404-FWCC (or *FWC).
