For the ones who were never meant to be machines.

Artists and writers need different things…

Some of us are not wired for the alarm clock.
Not wired for fluorescent lights and weekly staff meetings.
Not wired to measure our worth by consistency alone.

Some of us need space.

Not just space from emails and excess
but space from the energy of the entire world.

We need cardinals in winter.
Frogs at dusk.
Owls calling across dark trees.
Ducks quacking by our brooks.
Birds chirping all day.
Dogs happily waving their tails.
Cats purring.
Coffee in the sun with a blanket wrapped around our shoulders.
A day without a 9 a.m. obligation.

We need depth.
Questions that make the air still.
Books that ache with truth.
Music that moves through the body like prayer.

We need to move at the pace of feeling.
To stay up late when the words come.
To walk slowly when the snow is bright and quiet.

It does not mean we lack discipline.
It means we are listening to a different clock.

We are not machines.
We are attuned. Regulated. Integrated. Whole.

And when given enough space,
we give something back to the world
that makes it feel less alone.

After the Storm

The trees bent
as if friends huddled together

Snow held their branches low
like a quiet bow.

I crawled beneath them
laughing ~
pine in my lungs,
cold on my cheeks and legs
childhood rising through white silence.

The sun rose in the East,
forming a quiet cross
between branches and sky.

East
the direction of new beginnings.
Of first light.
Of starting again without announcement.

No anxiety.

Just light
threading through what remained.

I have planted what shelters me.
I have built what warms me.
I have nurtured what regulates me.
I have survived what tried to erase me.

The river moves.
The deer return.
The sun sets.
The branches lean toward one another.

And I stand here
not hardened ~
but rooted and sovereign.

After the storm,
there is still gold.

MOVE SLOWLY

There are days when old patterns invite us to react.
To defend.
To prove.
To escalate.

And then there are days we choose something different.

Regulation.
Steadiness.
Roots.

When you’ve lived through betrayal or moral strain, the nervous system can mistake intensity for power.

But true sovereignty is quiet.

It looks like:
Pausing before responding.
Preparing your space for what’s next.
Choosing alignment over adrenaline.

Growth is not dramatic.
It is deliberate.

The river moves.
So do we.

Move slowly.

I don’t do small talk.

Not because I’m aloof…
but because my nervous system has already lived through enough noise.

If we’re speaking, I want something honest.
Sleeves rolled up.
Salt in the air.
Truth without performance.

Let’s talk about why the Atlantic steadies a body
faster than applause ever could.

Why silence regulates some of us
and unsettles others.

Why success can fill a résumé
but not a ribcage.

Why we crave nature
yet build lives that fence it out.

Let’s talk about sovereignty.

About the quiet courage it takes
to be seen without contorting.
Without shrinking.
Without dazzling.

Most of us aren’t lonely.

We’re under-met.

Surrounded … yes.
Witnessed… rarely.

Real connection isn’t constant noise.
It’s recognition.

It’s the moment your body exhales
because someone is actually there.

I’m not quiet because I’m empty.

I’m quiet because I’m discerning.

Because Pink Light isn’t loud.
It’s steady.
It’s embodied.
It selects what it allows in.

If you want philosophy, the sea, moral backbone, longing, beauty,
the strange choreography of being alive in a human body ~

Pull up a chair.

Let’s meet without performance.

John, the Ruby and the Diamonds

Thirty-three years ago
a ruby ring was lost in John’s shop.
He told me then.
He was honest.

Life moved forward.

Today I walked back in,
not expecting anything,
and he said,
“I remember you. The ruby woman.”

Ruby is my birthstone
and the name of my 2004 Jaguar.

His shop ~ sixty years in this township ~
has marked engagements, anniversaries,
generations of promises.

It may soon close.

He told me to look around.

My eyes stopped at a gold cross
lined with diamonds.

Steady.
Strong.
Quietly luminous.

“I want to make good,” he said without words.

No spectacle.
No negotiation.
Just restoration.

Rubies are first fire.
Youth.
Beginnings.

Diamonds endure pressure
without losing their light.

He placed the cross in my hands
as though it were the most natural thing in the world.

The only gold necklace I own
is from my brother Jimmy,
whom I have not spoken to in twelve years.

And in that moment
I felt something rare:

Repair without demand.
Generosity without agenda.
Community without noise.

On the walk home
a man passed carrying wood before a storm.
Builders still exist, I thought.

Tonight the cross rests at my collarbone ~
not as ornament,
but as reminder:

Integrity lasts.
Reputation matters.
And grace, when it appears,
should be honored.

God bless John.

This poem is dedicated to one of my office landlords.

Nepenthe

Today began in the shadow of old ghosts ~
paper trails, unpaid echoes,
nineteen winters without a table set for me.

I moved through it
like a woman carrying salt in her pockets ~
expecting the next wound.

And then~

a greenhouse.
light caught in glass.
Italian air folded into New Jersey soil.

She held my poem
between fingers that know refinement
and chose it.

Not loudly.
Not ceremoniously.
Just ~
“Yes.”

In that quiet, yes,
Campania stirred in my blood.
Lemon groves I have never walked
recognized me.
Stone villages along the Amalfi coast
whispered,
You are not exiled from beauty.

Nepenthe ~
A happy place I visted when I was 17…
the drink that softens sorrow ~
arrived not as forgetfulness
but as placement.

My work
in refined hands.
My words
in curated space.

And the darkness of morning
loosened its grip.

I remembered:

I am the woman who saved her sanctuary.
I am ocean and feline,
rose and root,
card shark and conqueror,
keeper of land and light.

No aunt’s gallery defines me.
No holiday table contains me.

Beauty found me
in glass and soil
and said,

You belong here.

And that
was enough.

I am here to help. 🌿

I’m opening a few private telehealth consultation slots this week for adults navigating heightened stress, anxiety or trauma responses.

When world events stir up fear, distrust, or moral injury…
After unsettling news cycles, many people notice anxiety, hypervigilance, shutdown or relational distrust…

Sometimes old wounds reactivate. Sleep shifts. The nervous system feels on edge. Relationships feel less safe.

If you’re feeling unsettled and would benefit from grounded, trauma-informed support, I have limited availability this week.

Please call my office directly to schedule.

The Future of Connection Is Responsibility.

Not chemistry.
Not intensity.
Not fantasy.

Responsibility.

Responsibility for your triggers.
Your shadow.
Your nervous system.
Your growth.

When two people meet from that place, something shifts.

Safe masculine energy does not dominate or rescue.
It anchors.
It protects without controlling.
It leads without overpowering.

And when a woman feels that kind of steadiness, she softens.

Not because she is weak ~
but because she no longer needs armor.

That is where clean magnetism lives.

Not in chaos.
Not in performance.
Not in possession.

But in mutual evolution.

This is true in love.
It is true in leadership.
It is true in partnership of any kind.

The future belongs to those willing to do their own work.

And that is hopeful.

Because it means we are not waiting to be saved.

We are becoming safe enough to build something extraordinary.

Ten years ago, I wrote this piece about keeping love alive.

Looking back at it today, I’m struck by how much life has taught me since then …. about love, grief, resilience, and the quiet ways we care for one another through loss and change.

On Valentine’s Day, many people celebrate love, while others are mourning parents, partners, children, or chapters of life that have ended.

So today feels like a good reminder:

Check in on someone.
Offer kindness where you can.
Love isn’t only romantic ~ it lives in friendship, compassion, memory, and presence.

And beyond today, we are invited each day to choose hope, faith and love in how we meet one another.

In response to how many women are carrying stress and uncertainty right now, I’m also opening The Pink Light Support Circle, a small weekly sanctuary space for grounding and emotional steadiness in community.

🕯 Begins Sunday, February 22, 2026
🕯 5:00 pm EST (virtual)
🕯 Investment: $320 monthly

Grateful to continue supporting hearts and healing. Message me if this whispers to your heart.

May we continue to be a source of light for one another, especially when hearts are quietly healing.

Sometimes the words meant to comfort…
land as pressure.

A client once told me,

“When my therapist said ‘Calm Down’…’Breathe’.

it felt like she didn’t understand.
Breathing wasn’t calming.
It felt like being trapped inside the fear.”

And it reminded me:

Healing language must feel safe in the body,
not just sound kind in the room.

Because many people learned early that:
their feelings were minimized,
their pace ignored,
their trust broken.

So even gentle phrases can sometimes echo old wounds.

Not because they are wrong ~
but because the nervous system remembers.

At Pink Light Sanctuary™
we slow down instead.

We listen to what the body is saying.

We offer steadiness,
not instruction.

Choice,
not pressure.

Safety,
before solutions.

So before I guide,
I pause and ask:

How might these words land
for someone who learned not to feel safe?

And often,
that pause itself becomes the beginning of healing.

Witness for language shifts that help people feel met,
not managed.

What language shifts have changed your clinical work? Return to authorship. Rise with wisdom.
