With the winter solstice passing, if you’re someone who struggles with the lack of daylight during the winter, the days only get longer from here! ❄️

Seasonal depression is estimated to affect around 3-10% of the general population. But can effect up to 25-30% of individuals who have a diagnosis of depression or bipolar disorder.

It’s cause is related to the change of daylight hours affecting our circadian rhythm and sleep/wake cycles.

What can you do about it? If you are already doing therapy, exercising, improving your diet or are on medications from your provider, continue doing them! 💊

Try to get outside, even if it’s cold or even if it’s an overcast day. Light therapy is also an option for indoor use, but talk to your healthcare provider as there can be side effects of artificial light therapy. ☀️
