Yes, I’m late posting this. On brand for me lol.
But last weekend I got to be on a beginner triathlon panel for athletes training for sprint and Olympic triathlons, and it was such a good reminder of what people really need when they’re getting started.
Simplicity, encouragement, guidance, clarity and need someone to say, “You can do this in a real life, with a real schedule.” It's not an Ironman, you can do this in 5-6 hours of training a week. Have more time? Great, but you can start there.
Also, it happened to be International Women’s Day, and the panel was 6 female coaches and 1 male (Go Mike). Plus 3 of us were swimmers :)
That is definitely not the usual makeup in triathlon. Which as USAT tells us is 60% male, 40% female and for Ironman it's 75% male and 25% female. So this felt really cool. All of these female leaders that care so much and are so passionate about triathlon.
I believe anyone can do a triathlon. Yes it's hard, but that's what makes it fun. Don't be afraid to give something new and scary a shot. There are a lot of support systems out there if you look for them.
