🧠 Therapy vs. Assessment: Which One Do You Need?
Understanding the difference between Psychotherapy and Psychological Assessment is the first step toward getting the right support. While both aim to improve your well-being, they serve very different purposes.
🤝 Psychotherapy:
Think of therapy as the journey. It is an ongoing, collaborative relationship designed to help you navigate life’s challenges and improve your mental health over time.
✨Focus: Managing symptoms, changing behaviors, and healing emotional wounds.
✨Frequency: Usually weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly sessions.
✨Goal: Long-term growth, coping strategies, and emotional support.
✨Best if: You’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or stuck in patterns you can't seem to break.
📋 Psychological Assessment:
Think of an assessment as the investigation. It is a structured, formal process used to answer specific questions about how your brain works.
✨Focus: Identifying diagnoses like ADHD, Autism, Learning Disabilities, or complex personality traits.
✨Frequency: Usually 3 to 4 intensive appointments followed by a detailed report.
✨Goal: To provide a clear "Why" behind your struggles and offer a roadmap for treatment.
✨Best if: You need an official diagnosis for school/work accommodations, or if you’ve been in therapy but feel like you’re missing a piece of the puzzle.
⭐Pro Tip: Many people start with an Assessment to get a clear "map," then use Therapy to navigate the terrain!

✨New Year, New Goals, and a Re-Introduction!
Hi everyone! With the start of 2026, I wanted to take a moment to re-introduce myself to those who are new here and reconnect with those who have been following along.
I’m Sarah Moehrig, a Licensed Psychological Associate. My journey in this field began at Baylor University, where I earned my B.S. in Psychology in 2010 and M.S. in Clinical Psychology in 2012. After years of training in community mental health and private practice, I became independently licensed in 2017.
⭐My Philosophy: I believe you are more than a diagnosis. While I specialize in assessing and treating things like Autism, ADHD, mood and anxiety disorders, learning differences, and trauma, my goal is to help you understand the why behind your emotions and behaviors. I don’t just look at symptoms; I look at your unique life story. 📖
⭐My Approach: Every evaluation and treatment plan I create is:
🌟 Collaborative: We are a team.
🌟 Individualized: No "cookie-cutter" therapy here.
🌟 Strength-Based: We focus on what you’re good at, not just where you struggle.
⭐Outside the Office: When I’m not in the clinic, you can find me traveling with my husband and our two children, curled up with a good book, or lost in a challenging puzzle! 🧩✈️
I’m so glad you’re here. I want every client who walks through my door to leave feeling empowered and confident in their own skin. Whether you’re looking for answers through assessment or support through treatment, I’m honored to be part of your journey.

Benefits of Private Pay versus Insurance - Let's Talk About How You Pay for Your Well-Being 💬
It's common to wonder why some mental health practices don't accept insurance. I understand that navigating payment for psychological services can feel complex, and I want to be transparent about why my practice is private pay.
My commitment is to offer the highest quality, most personalized psychological assessment services possible. Here’s why I've chosen a private pay model for your benefit:
🔐Your Privacy, Protected: When insurance is involved, they require clinical details and diagnoses. Private pay means your assessment results and sensitive information remain exclusively between you and me, offering you greater peace of mind.
🫶🏼Care Tailored to You: Insurance companies often have limits on what they cover, how many sessions, or even the type of assessment. Private pay allows us the freedom to create a plan that truly fits your unique situation, without external interference. We can take the time needed to get the most accurate and helpful results.
⏰Focus on Your Goals, Not Bureaucracy: I want to spend my time focusing on you and your assessment, not on paperwork, pre-authorizations, or appeals to insurance companies. This ensures a smoother, more efficient process and allows me to dedicate my energy to delivering exceptional care.
I believe that investing in an in-depth understanding of yourself is invaluable. While I don't directly bill insurance, I can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions about fees or the private pay process. Your well-being is worth investing in.

Understanding your brain is a superpower. 🧠✨
Are you or your child struggling with focus, social navigation, or unexplained mood shifts? Getting answers shouldn't be a guessing game.
As a Licensed Psychological Associate with 15 years in the field, I specialize in helping people find the "missing pieces" of their mental health puzzle.
We can work together to evaluate for:
✅ ADHD
✅ Autism
✅ Learning Disorders
✅ Mood Disorders
✅ Impulse Control Disorders
✅ Trauma-Related Disorders
What’s the benefit? An assessment isn't just about a label—it’s about understanding how your brain works. It helps us identify your specific strengths, creates a roadmap for treatment, and ensures you get the exact support you deserve.
Have you ever wondered about the difference between a bad habit and an impulse control disorder?
I'll be diving into this and more at the 2025 iCare conference hosted by STCH Ministries, where I'll be presenting on Understanding Impulse Control Disorders. Come join me as we explore this important topic.
A study from the American Journal of Psychiatry suggests that psychotherapy is becoming more accessible to people. The study looks at trends in mental health treatment from 2018 to 2021.
