Autoimmune Awareness Month is coming to an end.

Unfortunately, the symptoms and cycles that come with a dynamic disability are not.
I’ve heard the message in the picture a few times today. First, in therapy where my therapist reminded me that I’m still new to chronic illness (at least having an actual diagnosis anyway) and that the grief around it is cyclical and will come in waves just as my symptoms do. She encouraged me to recognize and honor that grief as well as letting go of the guilt that comes with having to prioritize rest. That last part can be the hardest when you’re so used to being part of a society that heavily places your worth on productivity. It can also be hard when you have some good days and find yourself able to do more. So, I’m learning to honor the cycles from day to day, hour to hour. However that looks and I’m sharing the message in case you need to hear it too.

🌞 Our morning (I say this loosely because it’s whenever we get out of bed) routine is to visit our altar and do an ofrenda of some kind. Today I offered up some fresh Romero, music, Virgencita incense, drumming and dance. My baby Puppy Mariposa saw and decided to join in. 🦋 she’s such a sweet angel baby. Of our 3, she has experienced the most pain and is the most empathetic. We almost lost her last year due to surgical complications after her bladder stone removal. Shortly after almost losing my mom due to her kidney failure. Marie takes it all in. She stops to receive her blessings when she sees incense, is ready to go outside with me when she sees my blue pot for white fire limpias, always wants in on an egg cleanse, and joins in when I do limpias for others. Most definitely our soul dog. 🥰🥰 🐾
