We are so pleased to report that many of you have responded generously to our call for donations to support a rescue agency in Syria: . Having already received $865 in donations -- more than halfway to our goal of $1,500 -- we forwarded those donations, along with our 1-to-1 match, to Ernesto's Sanctuary near Aleppo.

There is still time to support these brave rescuers, as our matching promotion continues until the end of February. And the need remains great. In the past few days, they have received additional aftershocks, and the devastation is tragic. And as if they didn't have enough other troubles to negotiate, their old truck died and they had to push it. Please donate what you can. Every dollar helps and will be matched up to $1,500.

The Healthier, Greener, Kinder Foundation distributes grants to organizations in three key areas: programs that make the planet and its inhabitants , , and . In 2022, we awarded $2,000 to the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship to establish a bat monitoring program that will provide information on the presence of various species of bats on the 900-acre property and will contribute to efforts to conserve rare and endangered bat populations. Representatives from the organization also joined us in October at our Friendraiser, where they were awarded another grant to help them continue their mission.

The Blue Ridge Center is a nonprofit organization that manages nearly 900 acres featuring hiking trails through deep woods, babbling streams, a working farm, wildflower meadows, and historic farmsteads. Located in the western region of Virginia’s Loudoun county, we are a key member of the community – the Center’s land protects Potomac River tributaries and the Chesapeake Bay watershed, preserves the Appalachian Trail viewshed, and conserves the natural habitat for hundreds of animal species.

We are so thankful for the amazing turnout and fantastic support from our community and grantees for the Friendraiser we held on October 16th! What a lovely way to spend an evening, learning about the missions and projects of organizations like Peace of Mind and Veg Society of DC, sharing delicious plant-based food, and spreading inspiration to continue to make the world a , , and place. Thank you, River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation RRUUC for providing the wonderful venue to help us all gather.

Have you heard? The Healthier, Greener, Kinder Foundation will be hosting a "Friendraiser" on Sunday, October 16, from 4 to 5:30 PM!
We'll enjoy drinks, plant-based desserts, and lots of mingling with one another.

The program will include short presentations from some of the organizations supported by the Foundation, including Peace of Mind FlipFlops Animal Sanctuary, and Community FarmShare, and we'll introduce you to our Foundation and some of the organizations we support, including those in far-flung locations like North Carolina, Kansas, Texas, Nicaragua, New York City, and Cameroon.

And, to add to the fun, we will have a few selected items in a Silent Auction.

Unable to attend? While we did not organize this event as a fundraiser, if you cannot attend and would still like to show your support, we certainly welcome any donations.

We are hosting a "Friendraiser" on Sunday, October 16 from 4 to 5:30 pm at River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation RRUUC in Bethesda. Some of the organizations we've supported will be there to meet the event attendees, and a few of them will give short presentations about their work. The event will feature Drinks and Desserts, including delicious cookies from our favorite vegan baker, Wilma Bakes Cakes. We'll also have nice door prizes and some silent auction items. And if you represent a nonprofit who might want to seek a grant from us in the future, this would be a great opportunity to introduce yourselves. Please join us!
