Looking for a new tail-wagging adventure? ๐Ÿพ Northern Virginia is packed with incredible trails, but these 5 are our absolute favorites for a day out with the pup!
๐ŸŒŠ Great Falls Park (McLean): The "Bark Ranger" classic. Hit the River Trail for the best views, but keep those leashes tight near the cliffs!
๐Ÿ’ฆ Scottโ€™s Run (McLean): Perfect for the water lovers. Thereโ€™s a stunning waterfall and plenty of shallow spots for a quick paw-dip. ๐ŸŒฒ Prince William Forest Park: If you want to escape the crowds, this is the spot. 37 miles of trails to get lost in (metaphorically!).
๐ŸŒธ Bull Run (Centreville): Pro-tip: Head here in April for the famous Bluebell Trail. Itโ€™s like walking through a fairy tale.
๐Ÿฆ† Neabsco Boardwalk (Woodbridge): Flat, scenic, and great for senior dogs who want the views without the steep climbs.
Friendly Reminder: NoVa is tick country! ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ Always do a thorough "paw-to-ear" check after your hike.
Which one is your dog's favorite? Let us know in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡

Living in Northern Virginia means beautiful gardens, but did you know some of our most iconic plants are actually toxic to our four-legged neighbors? ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿšซ
Before you head to the garden center in Merrifield or Leesburg this weekend, keep an eye out for these NoVa staples that donโ€™t play nice with pets:
๐Ÿ‚ Azaleas: A Virginia classic, but highly toxic. Even a few leaves can cause serious heart issues.
๐ŸŒท Spring Bulbs: Tulips and Daffodils are gorgeous, but the bulbs are dangerous "dirt snacks" for dogs who love to dig.
๐ŸŒฟ English Ivy: This common ground cover can cause major tummy trouble and skin irritation.
๐Ÿ’  Hydrangeas: Beautiful for summer, but they contain compounds that can make pets very ill.
Safe Swaps: Try planting Virginia Bluebells, Snapdragons, or Purple Coneflowers instead! They love our Zone 7 climate and are pet-friendly. ๐Ÿพโœ…
Pro-Tip: If you're ever in doubt while at a local nursery, the ASPCA Pet Care App has a searchable database of toxic and non-toxic plants that is a lifesaver for gardeners!

Daylight Savings is basically "jet lag" for our pets! ๐Ÿพโœˆ๏ธ Since they can't read a clock, that one-hour shift can really throw off their tummy and their meds.
Here is my 3-step "No-Panic" plan for the time change:

โฑ The 15-Minute Rule: Start 4 days early! Shift feeding and meds by just 15 minutes each day. By Sunday, theyโ€™re already on the new schedule.
Prioritize Meds: If your pet is on insulin or seizure meds, timing is critical. Use the gradual shift to keep their levels steady.
๐Ÿ• Extra Potty Breaks: Their bladders don't follow the clock! Add a quick "late-night" out to help them adjust to the new morning routine.

Save this for when the clocks flip! โฐโœจ

Meet one of our wonderful technicians, Tyler!

He has been at OVVH for about 2 1/2 years. His favorite thing to do at work is hang out with pets as they recover from surgery. You will often find him holding tiny dogs in his lap while he finishes notes for the day.

In his free time he enjoys exploring local spots around Vienna, especially Jammin Java!

๐Ÿพโœˆ๏ธ When prepping for a trip, Iโ€™ve learned that a "stress-free" week for my sitter means a stress-free week for me.
Hereโ€™s my go-to checklist for a happy hound (and a sane sitter):
โœ… The Cheat Sheet: Vet info, emergency contacts, and the WiFi password (the essentials!).
โœ… The Rituals: If they need their kibble stirred clockwise at 7:02 AM, put it in writing. Habits = Comfort.
โœ… Stock Up: Overbuy the essentials. No one wants to hunt for specific litter at midnight.
โœ… The "Scent" Trick: Leave a worn t-shirt in their bed. Itโ€™s like a long-distance hug. ๐Ÿ‘•

Drop a ๐Ÿถ or ๐Ÿฑ if youโ€™re a professional over-prepper like me!
