We got lots of calls about allergies this weekend so reposting this in case you missed it. 👃🌳
Here is the dosing for claritin and zyrtec:
For children aged 2 to 5 years, the standard dose for both Loratadine (Claritin) and Cetirizine (Zyrtec) is 5 mg once daily. If using the liquid version (which is usually 5 mg/ 5 mL), this equals exactly one teaspoon (5mL).
Spring has officially arrived in Northern Virginia, and for many children, so have the sniffles! 🤧 Allergic rhinitis (hay fever) from tree and grass pollens can cause sneezing, itchy eyes, a runny nose, and fatigue. It can disrupt sleep and lead to missed school days.
Here’s how we can manage spring allergies:
🏡 Reduce Exposure:
Keep windows closed on high-pollen days.
Have kids shower and change clothes after playing outside.
💊 Medication Support:
When avoidance isn’t enough, we recommend evidence-based options. Intranasal steroids (like fluticasone) are often the most effective first-line treatment, reducing the deep nasal inflammation that causes congestion.
For severe or year-round cases, we may discuss long-term solutions like immunotherapy (allergy shots or sublingual treatments) to desensitize your child's system.
Properly managing allergies is also vital for controlling related conditions like asthma. We are here to help your child feel comfortable and focused this season!
