At Einstein Pediatrics we want every sleep to be a safe one. Here are the best practices from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to keep baby sleeping soundly and safely:
✔ Back for every sleep: Always place your baby on their back — for naps and night.
✔ Firm, flat surface: Use a safety-approved crib, bassinet, or play-yard with a firm mattress and fitted sheet. No blankets, pillows, toys, bumpers.
✔ Room share, don’t bed share: Baby should sleep in the same room as you (for at least the first 6 months) but on their own surface.
✔ Keep it bare: No loose bedding, pillows, stuffed animals, or crib bumpers. These increase risk.
✔ Choose safe sleep gear: Use swaddles or sleep sacks designed for infants; avoid weighted sleep sacks or inclined sleepers.
✔ Breastfeed if you can: Any amount of breastfeeding lowers the risk of SIDS.
✔ Avoid smoke, alcohol, & illicit drugs: These raise risk of sleep-related deaths.
📣 Tip for parents: Share this info with anyone caring for baby—grandparents, babysitters, daycare staff. Consistency matters.
