March is National Athletic Training Month! 💪

This month, we’re celebrating the athletic trainers who work to keep athletes safe, healthy, and performing at their best.

From the sidelines to the rehabilitation process, athletic trainers play a crucial role in injury prevention, emergency care, and helping athletes return to the sports they love.

At InMotion Physical Therapy, we’re especially proud that some of our therapists are also certified athletic trainers, bringing a unique level of expertise and experience to the athletes we treat every day. Their knowledge helps bridge the gap between injury, recovery, and peak performance.

Because when athletes Move Better, they Play Better. 🏃‍♂️

Golf Tip of the Week: Fix Your Over-the-Top Swing!⛳️

If you struggle with a slice, pulls, or inconsistent contact, you may be coming over the top in your downswing. This happens when the club comes down too steep and outside the swing path—causing loss of power and accuracy.

✅ Today’s Tip: Focus on staying connected and letting your body rotate instead of throwing your arms at the ball. Initiate your transition with your hips, not your hands, to improve sequencing and shallow the club.

🎥 Watch this quick drill to help you clean up your swing path and create a more powerful, efficient downswing.

Still struggling with your swing mechanics or dealing with pain while golfing? We can help with a movement screen or golf-specific assessment. Call our office at 304-295-7290 to schedule today! 📞

In this video, Natalie demonstrates the proper set up and performance of a deadlift — a common lift we do in the gym and in everyday life when picking up objects off the floor. 🏋️

She breaks it down into 4 key steps to achieve proper mechanics:
✅ Tension through the feet
✅ Hips set above knees
✅ Bar stays close to the body
✅ Neutral spine throughout

The deadlift is a great movement for strengthening the glutes, hamstrings, core, and back — but only when performed correctly. Better mechanics = fewer injuries. 💪

As Brittany demonstrated in the video, dry needling is a fast but highly effective treatment that can easily be added into your physical therapy session. Many patients experience relief after just one visit, and it may even help shorten your overall time in therapy!

Dry needling is a great option for anyone dealing with:

✅ Chronic pain
✅ Mobility restrictions
✅ Stubborn muscle tightness/tension that won’t go away

If you’re interested in trying dry needling, schedule an evaluation with InMotion Physical Therapy—our certified therapists can help determine if it’s the right treatment for you!

The Lower Quarter Y-Balance Test gives us valuable insight into an athlete’s dynamic balance, single-leg stability, and movement symmetry — key components for safe and successful sport participation. 💪

While commonly used with runners, this test applies to all athletes: soccer, basketball, volleyball, football — anyone who relies on strength, control, and coordination.

We use tools like this to guide rehab, optimize performance, and reduce injury risk. ✅

Often, this fault is caused by a lack of shoulder rotation and/or stability, making it difficult to keep the club on plane and return it to the correct path through impact.

Watch this quick drill to help improve your swing path and create a more powerful, efficient downswing! 🏌️

Cold Weather = Higher Injury Risk ❄️

Colder temps can make muscles and joints stiffer, increasing the risk of strains, sprains, and falls—especially on icy or snowy surfaces.

Physical therapy and balance training can help improve mobility, flexibility, and stability to keep you moving confidently all winter.

Let us help you stay steady, strong, and active this winter—call our office at 304-295-7290 to schedule your evaluation! 📱

Struggling with your golf swing? It might be a movement dysfunction. ⛳

One of the most common issues we see in amateur golfers is early extension—when the hips move toward the ball during the downswing. This can lead to inconsistent ball contact, unstable impact position, and even back or hip pain.

The good news? Physical therapy addresses the root cause of the swing fault and can fix the movement problem.

In the video below, Natalie demonstrates a simple at-home exercise you can try if you think early extension may be affecting your golf swing. ⬇️
