Langley is proud to be home to 23 adults with developmental disabilities through our residential support program. Our six homes are where real life happens: birthdays, friendships, growth, and more. A safe home makes all of it possible.

Four of our six homes are 50+ years old. While we have not been around for the homes’ full stories, we have been part of them for a long time. Now through April 10, we are raising $5,000 to protect these spaces for decades to come.

Repairs aren't just maintenance; they are a statement that our residents deserve quality. Your gift will ensure our residents have safe, warm places to call home for a long time. Every dollar directly helps. https://bit.ly/4biF0Ou

While Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month lasts for a few more days, today marks the last day of Langley’s “I Can…I Do…I Am…” campaign. This month, we have spotlighted several Langley residents and community support participants. We hope you enjoyed learning more about their incredible talents, the new skills they have learned with the support of Langley, and who each of them is. Every one of the 36 adults with developmental disabilities we serve at Langley is unique and capable of so much. We hope this campaign will inspire you to celebrate and recognize the incredible diversity, ability, joy, and strength of the developmental disabilities community. Happy Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month!

I Am 100% me. This month, Langley has been celebrating who the 36 adults with developmental disabilities we serve are. They are artists, parents, siblings, singers, basketball players, grandparents, bowlers, sons, daughters, cooks, bakers, walkers, and so much more. Our hope through our I Can…I Do…I Am… campaign is for our community to celebrate the individuals we serve and advocate on their behalf every day.

Our communities are stronger when we uplift, celebrate, and acknowledge everyone who is part of them every day. Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month lasts just 31 days, but creating a trusted community where everyone can thrive is a daily effort. We need advocates, community members, leaders, and you to help make that happen. Before Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month ends, please contact your representatives and share the importance of an inclusive society where all can flourish. If you’re interested in advocating for the developmental disabilities community year-round, consider getting involved with national partners like the NACDD, which empowers people with developmental disabilities, their families, and allies to build welcoming and supportive communities.

I Can achieve my goals. I Do activities I enjoy. This month, Langley has been celebrating the accomplishments of the 36 adults with developmental disabilities we serve. Some of the individuals we featured bowl, cook, bake, crochet, work out in the community, use Metro, know crucial health and safety skills, and more. Creating a community where everyone can thrive is our vision. This vision cannot be achieved without the support of the community, including you.

Before Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month ends, please get in touch with your representatives and share with them the importance of an inclusive society where all can thrive. If you’re interested in advocating for the developmental disabilities community throughout the year, we encourage you to get involved with local partners like The Arc of Northern Virginia, which promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Northern Virginia.

I Can…I Do…I Am…

Today we’re featuring The Carlsons. Married for 41 years this May, the Carlsons have been part of Langley’s community support program for 32 years. As part of the community support program, the Carlsons live on their own and have a Direct Support Professional come and assist them a few times a week. Some individuals in the Langley community have significant others, fiancés, or, like the Carlsons, are married. Leading a rich, full life can include romantic love and lifelong partnerships. We are proud to serve the Carlsons and hope you enjoy learning more about them.

Helping individuals life rich, full lives

How We Make a Difference

Our programs and services help adults with developmental disabilities realize their dreams to have lives that are like those of everyone else. They dream of:

Living on their own

As they move past childhood and adolescence, many people with developmental disabilities want to leave the family home just like they’ve seen their brothers or sisters do. They want to be as independent as they possibly can and to have a place that they can call their own.
