Day 331: We are leaving 2025 in the past and hope to leave cancer along with it. Carson got a double dose of Benadryl and is wild as ever. He pulled the ivs out, so he was able to take a bath and be free from wires for a few. Carson was literally jumping off the walls. 🤣🤣 He is in isolation and likes to stand right on the line of his door. He will try to sneak over it and see how far he can go over the line. This boy is full of energy today as his counts are on the rise! He will be having surgery next week to put a new port in, ear tubes and chemo spinal.

Day 330; Part 2: Carson had some new abnormal cells develop in his labs. None of them correspond with the type of cancer he has. (B Cell Acute lymphoblastic leukemia) The doctor said there are very few of these abnormal cells, so they are not worried, yet. They said the bone marrow is working in overdrive, so it is likely to have abnormal cells “spit out.”
Of course I am worried to death. He is on a chemo hold and what if those few cells multiply quickly, before he can resume chemotherapy. 😔
The doctors said they will be getting daily labs and will be watching them closely. Prayers and positive vibes that the cells do NOT multiply and his counts recover quickly, so he can start chemo more sooner than later.
On a positive note his Auntie brought Christmas presents to the hospital and Carson’s crew continues to show him love. He’s also been excited watching the helicopters fly in!
Thank you to everyone that has sent a card, gift or positive messsge. Everything is greatly appreciated.

Day 330: I haven’t given an update on Carson’s progress, because I received some bloodwork back that is concerning. My chart can be a good and bad thing, especially trying to interpret it. I don’t want to post till I know for sure, but I have been waiting to talk to the doctors since yesterday and they still haven’t talked to me. So, I just sit here and worry. Please pray and send positive vibes that it’s nothing, but google is the devil. 😔
On a side note he loves all the mail and it helps decorate his room!

Day 329: Carson felt the love from his crew today with all his packages and he also received mail that was left from the last time we were at Ronald McDonald’s House. Thank you to everyone that sent him mail or a surprise!! It won’t let me tag anyone, but it is definitely appreciated!!!

Day 328: Not much has changed today. Mammy stayed with Carson, so I could spend time with Carson’s older brothers. It is hard to balance out kids at home an hour away. I can’t visit my oldest 2 kids, because I don’t want to risk getting my grandson sick. Cancer takes so much from a family, not just the child with cancer. 😔
Carson’s counts keep fluctuating. The bacteria infection has not shown up in his bloodstream as of now, which is great news. They will continue to monitor his cultures for a total of 5 days. He will stay on antibiotics to fight the infection that was in his port for at least 9 more days . (Staph was in his port.) Carson is feeling better, especially since they snatched an x-box from another floor. (The x-box on 7W hasn’t worked since he was admitted .)
The boys went ahead and took their New Year’s picture together, since most likely Camden and Cyler won’t be with us on New Year’s Eve. 😔

Day 327: Surgery went great. The port was removed and so far the blood cultures are showing the infection was contained to his port. They will continue to get blood cultures the next 48 hours to make sure the infection is out of his body now that the port is gone. He will be inpatient till at least January 6th.

I’m listing his mailing address again in case anyone wants to send him mail.

Day 326: Not the news I wanted to hear, but his port has to be removed as soon as possible. They scheduled surgery for 4 hours out, so he could be NPO (no food or drinks) long enough, but then his bloodwork came back that his platelets are too low for surgery. They are going to give him platelets for the next several hours in hopes they can have surgery through the night or first thing in the morning.
They will continue to monitor his blood cultures to make sure the the infection is only in his port and not in his body’s bloodstream. He will be hospitalized for a minimum of 10 additional days, but will probably be longer.
His ANC has bottomed out, which is expected. Most likely it will stay this way through the weekend, then hopefully start to rise. His ANC levels put him on a chemo hold, therefore he can’t start maintenance until his counts completely recover.
He goes through little spurts of energy. He will wake up for about 30-45 minutes, then sleep for several hours. His body is working hard to get his counts back up!!

If anyone would like to send him mail you can send it to the following address:

I put the $20 and $25 gift cards on his wishlist, but it keeps defaulting to the more expensive ones for some reason.

Day 325: Carson’s blood cultures came back that there is bacteria growth in his port line. The port is central lined to his heart, so the infection has to be taken seriously. The doctor said we have to wait for infectious disease control to decide what they want to be done. He could have to stay inpatient for a minimum of a week of iv antibiotics, could be several weeks, or have surgery to remove the port and put in two ivs. When his counts recover he’d have another port placed and the ivs removed. She said there is a slim chance that the blood cultures were contaminated and that there isn’t actually an infection, but with how quick the bacteria came back positive, she doubts that to be the case. Carson has finally been fever free for 24 hours as of about 20 minutes ago. He still has a runny nose and a bad cough. He’s slept most the day, but of course he is wide awake now.
Please send positive vibes that he doesn’t have to have surgery. It would be very risky with his blood counts where they are at. That’s why they would only be able to remove the port and not put other one in yet.

** My niece brought up some more presents for Carson from Janet Foster and he woke up long enough to open them!

Day 325: I will give an update post later, trying to make a positive post first. The hospital changed his bed to Christmas sheets and the clinic gave us a little tree to decorate. Santa came and left a few goodies at the hospital and the rest are at home when he gets out of here!
