Grief is not something to fix, it’s something to honor.
The depth of our grief reflects the depth of our love, and mourning is a natural response to meaningful connection.
In this thoughtful article by Dr. Alan Wolfelt, he explores why our capacity to grieve exists because we first had the capacity to love.

Jessie Lee Ary

Jessie Lee Ary II, affectionately known as “Jay,” passed away on January 21, 2026, in Bartlesville, OK, surrounded by those who loved him. He was born on April 17, 1974, in Santa Paula, CA. Jay lived life to the fullest, marked by service, quiet strength, curiosity, and a deep love for his family and the world around him.

Jay spent his early years in Santa Paula, CA, where he played Little League and later basketball and football at Santa Paula High School. During his senior year, he moved to Disney, OK, where he attended and graduated from Jay High School with the Class of 1994. While at Jay High School, he played baseball and basketball. Sports reflected Jay’s teamwork, determination, and loyalty to those beside him. From an early age, Jay rode dirt bikes, a hobby he carried into adulthood when he later rode street bikes as well.

Following high school, Jay enlisted in the United States Army, answering a call to serve that would shape the rest of his life. He served honorably with the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, known as “The Old Guard,” and was stationed at Fort Myer, VA. His service included membership on the Funeral Honors Team and the solemn responsibility of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, duties he carried with humility, pride, and deep respect.

While serving in the Army, Jay began pursuing higher education, though he did not complete his degree until after his military service ended. During and after his service, Jay became a world traveler, spending time throughout Europe and Central and South America. His travels included climbing Machu Picchu. Travel was not just about places for Jay, but about people, cultures, and experiences that enriched his life.

After completing his military service, Jay worked as an estimator for a moving company and later opened his own restaurant in Northern VA, based on Peruvian food he discovered and grew to love during his travels. These years reflected his independence, strong work ethic, and entrepreneurial spirit. He later moved back to OK, where he completed his bachelor’s degree at Oklahoma State University, fulfilling a goal he had long been committed to achieving.

Jay later lived and worked abroad, teaching English in Brazil, where he formed lasting connections and continued his lifelong passion for learning. He spoke several languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, and German. He was well-versed in history and ancient times and was an avid collector, interests that reflected his curiosity and love of knowledge.

After returning to the United States, Jay built a career in the mining industry, working as a mechanic at the Brakefield Coal Mine in Vinita, OK. He took pride in honest, hands-on work and was respected by those around him for his skill, reliability, and steady presence.

Above all, Jay was a devoted son, father, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving parents, Jessie and Dianne Ary (née Morgan); his children, Perola and Jessie III, who were the center of his world; his sister, Tanya Asher and husband Greg; and his brothers, Roger Mohan and wife Dorothea, and Samuel Ary and wife Dilyara Daminova. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, loyalty, and quiet generosity.

Jay was preceded in death by his grandparents Grandma Mary and Cecil; Grandpa and Grandma Buffalohead; Grandpa and Grandma Morgan; his aunts Carol, Rose, and Patsy; his uncles Carl, Patrick, and Doyle Ray; his cousins Amanda and Billy; his nephew Allan; and his niece Olivia.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 28, 2026, at Family Community Church, 220 Cherokee Avenue, Langley, OK, with Pastor Dan Miller officiating. A luncheon will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Interment at Fort Gibson National Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Online condolences may be shared at www.honoringmemoriesvinita.com or on the funeral home page. Arrangements are under the care of Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita, family owned and locally operated.

Kenneth Lee Trude

Kenneth Lee Trude, age 71, passed away on January 20, 2026. He was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, father-in-law, and great-grandfather.

Kenneth was born on December 12, 1954, in Nowata, Oklahoma. A man who lived life with a pen in his shirt pocket, a comb in his jeans, and enough positive energy to light up the entire state of Oklahoma, Kenneth brought joy, kindness, and a helping hand to everyone he met.

He was a proud veteran who served his country before returning home to build a life defined by hard work and devotion to family. Many in the Vinita community will remember Kenneth from his decades of dedicated service as a maintenance worker and janitor for Vinita Public Schools.

While Kenneth held many jobs throughout his life, his favorite roles were “Grandpa” and “Great-Grandpa.” Whether he was fishing, admiring classic cars, or sitting down to play video games with the kids, his world revolved around his family. He had a rare, infectious joy that stayed with you long after he left the room. Whenever Kenneth came to visit, you had to catch the stories while you could — because he was always on to the next adventure.

Kenneth left an everlasting mark on every heart he encountered. His legacy lives on through his only daughter, her children, and his many great-grandchildren — along with the hard work, kindness, laughter, and reminder that life is meant to be lived at full speed.

He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and the many lives he touched in Vinita and beyond. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. in the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dan Miller officiating. Kenneth will be laid to rest at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery at a later date.

Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemoriesvinita.com or on the funeral home page. Arrangements are in the care of Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita. "Family owned. Locally operated."

For many, winter can bring a heavier emotional weight, especially for those carrying grief. The season slows us down, sometimes more than we’d like. Even so, some strength is built in stillness.

You may hear the terms viewing and visitation used interchangeably, but they can serve different purposes.
A viewing is typically a quiet time to pay respects in person, while a visitation is often a more open opportunity for family and friends to gather and offer support.
Both are meaningful in their own way.
