When anxiety shows up, it’s tempting to avoid whatever triggered it, hoping the feelings will go away. Stepping back only gives anxiety more strength, though. The more we run from uncomfortable situations, the bigger anxiety becomes in our lives. It starts to feel like this overwhelming force we can’t possibly face. Avoidance is what keeps us stuck. We end up missing out on things we care about while anxiety continues to grow.

The shift happens when we stop running and start experiencing the discomfort instead. This doesn’t mean diving into your biggest fears right away. You can start small, with whatever feels manageable today. Maybe it’s five minutes of something that makes you nervous. As you practice facing anxiety rather than avoiding it, you’ll notice the feelings don’t last as long as you thought they would. You’ll discover something even more important: you’re capable of handling much more than anxiety wants you to believe.

Self-compassion doesn’t always come naturally. If you grew up in an environment where love felt conditional, where approval had to be earned, or where criticism was the norm, being kind to yourself might feel uncomfortable or even fake at first.

You learned to treat yourself the way you were treated. When you make mistakes, you criticize. When you fall short, you judge. When you need rest, you push harder instead. The voice in your head sounds nothing like the way you’d speak to someone you care about.

Changing this takes intentional practice. It means catching yourself when the harsh thoughts start and choosing to respond differently. It means observing what you’re feeling without immediately labeling yourself as wrong for feeling it. It means accepting that being imperfect is part of being human, not evidence that you’re failing.

Self-compassion isn’t about lowering your standards or letting yourself off the hook. It’s about treating yourself with the same understanding you’d offer anyone else going through what you’re going through.

The invitation is to drop self-judgment and connect with yourself with self-compassion.

This is a glimpse of Victoria’s appointment yesterday.

Healing doesn’t follow a single path, and there is no one method that works for everyone.

Your journey will look different from anyone else’s because your specific experiences, needs, and circumstances shape it. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing illness, or working through emotional pain, expecting a straightforward process sets you up for frustration.

Understanding this from the start changes how you approach healing. It stops being about finding the “right” method and becomes about discovering what actually works for you.

If you’re ready to explore what works for your unique healing journey, schedule an appointment.

Somatic coaching doesn't replace therapy.

Sliding-scale is available for our military, first responders, and family members.

Active imagination is a practice of engaging the unconscious through images, feelings, or dream material that naturally arises. Attention is placed on allowing this content to unfold without directing or analyzing it, creating space for symbolic imagery and insight to emerge.

The process often begins with an image or emotion that feels significant. By staying present with it, scenes may develop or shift, revealing information that is not easily accessed through thinking alone. Reflection afterward helps integrate the experience without forcing interpretation.

Active imagination supports emotional awareness, stress regulation, and self-understanding by working directly with inner experience. It requires little structure, only time, attention, and a willingness to stay with what arises.

Busyness is often treated as proof that we are doing enough. Days fill quickly. Responsibilities accumulate. Staying in motion becomes the default, even when it no longer supports us.

Over time, it gets harder to tell what is actually nourishing and what is simply consuming energy. The cost shows up slowly, through exhaustion, irritation, or a sense of distance from what matters most.

This is an invitation to pay closer attention to where your time is going and how it feels to live inside it. Not everything that keeps you occupied is meant to sustain you.

All our practitioners use mindfulness with their clients.

You disconnect from your body when things get overwhelming. It’s a survival mechanism, but it becomes a problem when you’re stuck there.

You end up running on autopilot, reacting instead of responding, repeating the same patterns because you can’t catch them early enough. Your body is sending signals, but you’ve learned to ignore them.

The work we do at Healing Arts Center helps change that. You reconnect so you can actually notice what’s happening before the pattern takes over. You learn to spot the signs earlier. You build the capacity to handle stress without shutting down. You stop burning through all your energy to make it through the day.
