Join FACT for another round of Book Club, an 8-week adaptive program designed to share the joy of reading and listening to stories in a fun, supportive environment.

👥 Who: Ages 6+
🧠 No comprehension or reading skills required — we read and/or listen to the story together as a group

📖 What to expect:
• Weekly reading/listening sessions
• Fun activities connected to the story
• Social time with peers
• 🎬 Final week = movie day with friends

Looking for a fun, inclusive way for your bowler to build skills, confidence, and friendships? Our peer bowling league is rolling into the winter season!

✨ Who: ages 8+ (all ability levels welcome)
✨ When: Sundays, Jan 11 – March 29, 2026 | 3:00–5:00 PM
🚫 No bowling Feb 1 & Feb 8
✨ Where: Pinboys At The Beach, Virginia Beach

This year we have an extra special Holiday Card to share with you created by one of our awesomely autistic employees!

As part of FACT’s recent program expansion to provide Community for a Lifetime to autistic individuals ages 6 and up, we launched our HERO (Helping Employees Reach Outcomes) Internship. This workforce development program provides supported, paid employment for 10 autistic adults. During their internship, our autistic employees work with FACT’s Employment Specialist to increase their vocational, life, coping, and interpersonal skills in a supported employment setting. Additionally, each autistic employee works on employee directed goals in areas that interest them.

One of our interns is interested in graphic design. As part of her training, we gave her access to FACT’s Canva account to create flyers and materials for our gift shop. However, her biggest project yet was this year’s Holiday card!

After visiting an art gallery with FACT’s Employment Specialist and a professional graphic designer we connected her with, she was inspired to design a holiday art exhibit depicting FACT supporters like you getting to see some of the FACT memories YOU helped create this year! After many hours of hard work, she created this year’s holiday card and, to put it in her own words, we think she “cooked with this one.” We are so excited to see her skills and confidence continue to grow during her internship at FACT and hope you all enjoy her work this holiday season!

Special thanks to local high schooler Montell who was introduced to us by Shark City Drum and Dance Corps. and is now both a FACT summer camp counselor and the instructor of the drumming program!

to Ping Pong for Charity for their extremely generous $4,000 donation, in addition to securing yet another Kettler Table Tennis Table for our Autism Resource Center (FACT has now received three free tables thanks to them)! We are greatly appreciative of their continued support and happy to host their PingPong Slammers League every other Thursday night! Come out to our Family Night on Thursdays to learn to play some PingPong!

The mission of Families of Autistic Children in Tidewater (FACT) is to improve the quality of life for individuals with autism and their families in the greater Hampton Roads, Virginia area. FACT promotes the creation of social and recreational programs designed to enhance communication and socialization. FACT encourages frequently integrating these individuals into the community by providing positive social and communication models, along with emotional and behavioral supports needed for engagement.
