Monday Motivation | In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb

March often comes in like a lion—busy, loud, and demanding—but it leaves us like a lamb: calmer, steadier, and grounded.

At SSVA, we know both strengths matter:
🦁 The courage to advocate, problem‑solve, and show up when things are hard.
🐑 The compassion, patience, and kindness that guide how we support one another and the people we support.

As we close out March, take a moment to notice how you’ve balanced strength and gentleness—and carry both with you into the weeks ahead.

Thank you for all you do to help others realize their success. 💙💛

Wednesday Warrior - Realizing Success

It’s that time of year when we proudly recognize our 2025 SSVA Hall of Fame Winners!
Each year, Hall of Fame recipients are selected through a blind vote by SSVA employees, based on monthly Regional Insights recognitions that highlight our SSVA Core Values in Action. The top three winners each receive a contribution toward a meaningful experience they’ve been hoping to enjoy.

Our 2025 3rd Place Hall of Fame Winner is Chuck King, who has chosen to use his award to see Jeff Dunham in concert this May in Danville—a well‑deserved experience!

Chuck joined the SSVA team in January 2025 and, in a short time, has become someone everyone knows they can count on. He’s the person others turn to, knowing the job will be handled safely, efficiently, and done right the first time. Whether he’s supporting a coworker during a shift or offering help to family and friends in his personal time, Chuck consistently steps up. As a former Army medic, he brings that same spirit of service, responsibility, and dedication into everything he does.

Outside of work, Chuck enjoys the outdoors—fishing, hunting, camping, and riding in his Jeep with the top down. He also values downtime with friends, relaxing over ci**rs and sipping bourbon. Chuck is a proud father of three grown sons, grandfather to nine grandchildren, and great‑grandfather to a great‑granddaughter. And by his side whenever possible is Ellie Mae, his beloved redbone coonhound.

Thank you, Chuck, for being someone our team and the individuals we support can always rely on. You don’t just show up—you think ahead, anticipate needs, and ensure safe, efficient outcomes for everyone involved.

Congratulations, Chuck, and thank you for everything you do! 🎉🏆

Wednesday Warrior - Realizing Success

This week's Wednesday Warrior is going to our youngest team member Amani Hill. While young in age, it has no comparison to her skills! No matter the person that she supports, Amani's care and passion shines through. She brings a positive and peaceful presence to the environment and gets along with everyone. She introduces craft ideas, games, outings for staff and the people they support to explore and have fun at Peaceful Waters. Amani doesn't shy away when a coworker is struggling. She will step in to assist wherever and however she is needed. She will also work extra shifts if she's asked. On her down time, Amani enjoys rewatching her favorite movies and shows, roller skating and hanging out with her friends.

Amani reminds us that the next generation inspires us every day—by embracing growth, believing in themselves, and showing us new ways to shine. Thank you for being you!! 💙💛

Monday Motivation -

As we head into St. Patrick’s Day week, let’s remember that the real “luck” at SSVA isn’t found in four‑leaf clovers—it’s found in people.

Every day, you show up with kindness, creativity, and a commitment to helping others live meaningful lives in the community. You build relationships, embrace challenges, and keep moving forward—even when the work is hard. That’s not luck.
That’s purpose.

This week, let’s choose to notice the small wins, celebrate one another, and keep our focus on what matters most: Realizing success by helping others realize theirs.

Thank you for being the heart of SSVA. 💚

Wednesday Warrior - Realizing Success

Gerrisha Taylor joined SSVA in October 2022 and soon made the intentional decision to advance her career within the organization. She completed the QIDP program and graduated in August 2024, and she now serves as a Sponsored Residential QIDP.
Gerrisha is known for being dedicated, detail‑oriented, and deeply committed to the people she supports. She consistently demonstrates strong person‑centered values, high‑quality documentation, and thoughtful individualized program development, while ensuring compliance, safety, and the promotion of independence.

With excellent communication skills and a collaborative, empathetic approach, Gerrisha provides clear and professional support to sponsors, DSPs, and administrative staff alike. She is highly organized, reliable, and passionate about advocacy—and when it comes to required trainings or follow‑up communication, Gerrisha is often the first to get it done!

We are grateful for Gerrisha’s leadership, consistency, and the care she brings to her role every day. Thank you for all you do! 💙

Monday Motivation -

At SSVA, the power of leadership rooted in compassion — in the way people show up, advocate, support, and create positive change. Every member of the SSVA team is leading the way for others to realize their success!

Leadership isn’t about titles.
It’s about:
✨ Lifting others up
✨ Creating safe and respectful spaces
✨ Choosing empathy, even when it’s hard

As we begin this week, let’s carry forward the reminder that meaningful impact happens through consistent, values‑driven action.

🕊️ “Leadership begins with care.”

Thank you to everyone who leads with heart — in big ways and small ones — every single day. 💚

💚 Today, we want to recognize and celebrate the incredible women who make SSVA possible.

Through their dedication, professionalism, leadership, creativity, and heart, women across SSVA show up every day to support our mission and the people we serve.
We also recognize the women whose impact extends beyond the workplace — those who support homes, families, children, friends, and communities, who advocate, who speak up, and who challenge systems to honor what is right and good.
Your strength, compassion, and commitment make a difference — not just today, but every day.

Thank you for inspiring us and helping create a positive and peaceful world! 💚

Wednesday Warrior - Realizing Success

We are thrilled to recognize Caroline Austin, Administrative Assistant and HR backup in our Danville Division, as this week’s Wednesday Warrior! Caroline joined SSVA last June as a temporary employee through our temp agency and officially became a part of our team in December.

Since then, she has consistently gone above and beyond to support her teammates. Her proactive approach keeps things running smoothly, and her kind, friendly personality shines in every interaction—whether with our guests, staff, or customers. Caroline has truly become a valued member of our team!

When she’s not making SSVA better every day, Caroline enjoys traveling, gaming, spending time with her family, and hanging out with her dog, Lucky.

Thank you, Caroline, for everything you do—your dedication, positivity, and energy make a real difference!

🌿 Monday Motivation 🌿

March invites us to slow down and begin again. At SSVA, peace isn’t something we wait for — it’s something we practice through patience, kindness, and respect.

Peace looks like:
✨ Listening before responding
✨ Meeting people where they are
✨ Creating environments where everyone feels safe, valued, and heard
As we step into a new month, let’s choose peace — in our words, our actions, and the way we show up for one another.

🕊️ “Peace is a daily practice.”

Wishing our SSVA community a calm and meaningful start to March. 💚

Wednesday Warrior – Realizing Success
Katrina Slagle truly goes above and beyond to ensure the person she supports is living his best life. Every time I visit, it’s clear how happy he is in her home—and that joy speaks volumes about the love, patience, and consistency she provides. Even while working full time, Katrina never allows anything to interfere with giving him the attention, comfort, and care he deserves.

Outside of her role as a sponsor, Katrina enjoys spending time with her family, going out to eat, and taking trips to Myrtle Beach—simple joys that reflect the warmth and balance she brings into her everyday life. She has been part of the SSVA family since 2017, and we are incredibly fortunate that she has opened both her home and her heart so our individuals can live the lives they choose.

Katrina is a remarkable woman who brings happiness, stability, and fulfillment to those she supports. Through all the changes within the Sponsored Residential Program, she has remained patient, flexible, and willing to adapt whenever needed—yet another example of her unwavering dedication.

Monday Motivation -

A new week is here—and so is another opportunity to keep showing up with purpose.

At SSVA, our work isn’t always easy. We support people through real life: big emotions, new routines, health and safety needs, hard transitions, and goals that take time. And yet…this is exactly where steady, consistent effort matters most.

So when the week feels heavy, let this be your reminder:
💙Obstacles don’t mean stop.
💛They mean pause, problem-solve, adjust, and keep going—together.

This week, let’s move forward in the ways that count:
💙Choose patience over pressure when someone needs extra time to process or practice a skill.
💛Lead with dignity—talk to people like adults, honor preferences, and protect choice.
💙Notice the wins that don’t make headlines: a calm redirection, a new community connection, a completed task with less support, a moment of pride.
💛Support each other like a real team—ask for help, offer help, and share what’s working.

Every small step you take helps create a bigger life for the people we support—and that’s the heart of what we do: Realizing Success by Helping Others Realize Theirs.
Thank you for showing up. Let’s make it a good week. 💙💛
