NAMI Coastal Virginia

NAMI Coastal Virginia We are the voice of mental illness paving the way of hope in Coastal Virginia through education

NAMI Coastal Virginia is a nonprofit, community-run organization that advocates those affected by serious mental illness. We offer ongoing education and training programs, support groups, and a 24/7 helpline. We connect to people with the goal of improving the quality of life for recovering individuals and their families. NAMI Coastal Virginia advocates at the local, state, and national levels to eradicate the stigma associated with mental illness and is committed to improving the lives of the community at large through free educational programs and community-wide inclusion.

đź’š Thank You to Our Mental Health Awareness Night Sponsors! đź’š

As we look ahead to our Mental Health Awareness Night with the Norfolk Admirals next week 🏒, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the incredible organizations who made this event possible.

Our sponsors are true Community Mental Health Champions, standing with us to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support mental health care across Coastal Virginia. Their partnership helps ensure that individuals and families know they are not alone and that help is always available.

We are deeply grateful for your commitment, leadership, and continued support of mental wellness in our community. đź’š

When someone is in a behavioral health crisis, the goal is not just “what do we do right now?” It is Right Help, Right Now, with options that meet people where they are.

A strong crisis continuum includes:
âś“ Someone to talk to (988)
âś“ Someone to respond (mobile crisis teams)
âś“ A place to go (center-based crisis care)
This is how communities reduce unnecessary hospital stays, incarceration, and out-of-home placements while offering trauma-informed, recovery-oriented support. If you or someone you love needs support, call or text 988.

New Year brings New Beginnings! I am excited to announce that Max Willey will be assuming the role of president. Serving in this position over the past several years has been both an honor and a privilege, and I am confident that the affiliate will continue to thrive under his leadership.đź’š

I take pride in NAMI Coastal’s ongoing impact within our community and remain deeply appreciative of the support it provided my family during challenging times.💚

This transition is not a goodbye-- I will continue to serve on the board and as Youth and Young Adult Outreach Coordinator. đź’š

With gratitude, Susannah Uroskie

✨ Happy New Year from NAMI Coastal Virginia! ✨
As we welcome 2026, we want to take a moment to thank our community — our peers, families, volunteers, partners, and supporters — who showed up with compassion, courage, and care this past year. 💙
The start of a new year brings fresh hope, renewed strength, and the reminder that no one has to face mental health challenges alone. In the year ahead, we remain committed to education, support, advocacy, and connection for individuals and families across Coastal Virginia.
Here’s to another year of ending stigma, building community, and supporting mental health for all. 🌊✨

🎉 Meet Lovey the Llama – NAMI Coastal Virginia’s newly named mascot! 🦙💛

Lovey was named by one of our amazing community members from Chesapeake, who chose it for its meaning: used as an affectionate form of address and approachable to all, just like NAMI’s mission of love and welcome for everyone. 💕

Did you know? In mental health and child development, a “lovey” (or comfort object) helps individuals self-soothe, manage stress, and feel secure—exactly what Lovey represents for our community!

We’re so excited for Lovey to join us at events, programs, and outreach efforts, spreading comfort, joy, and mental health awareness. 🌟
