Meet our next supervisor spotlight, Lieutenant Nick Segerblom! Nick has been apart of the VBLS family for 8 total years, 5 of those years as a supervisor. His favorite aspect of the job is being apart of a team that keeps everyone safe when they come to the beach and making a difference everyday! On his break, you can find him surfing or stopping by for a burrito!

His biggest tip for everyone visiting the beach is to approach the staffed lifeguard stand and talk to the guards about the current water conditions before entering the water!🌊

Happy Earth Day!! Our world’s oceans cover around two-thirds of the planet, and we are incredibly grateful to have an amazing area and beach to call home!🌎🌊

Our next supervisor spotlight is the one and only, First Lieutenant Ryan Austin! This upcoming season will be his 17th year on the beach, and his 12th year as a VBLS supervisor. His favorite part of the job is creating a fun environment for all lifeguards, with his favorite activities being frisbee nights and competition practices🥏🌊

When he’s not on the beach, he is most likely seen at ! As self proclaimed number 1 customer, his go to order is “a Big Kahuna w/ steak or a SoCal Burrito (sometimes both)”

Last but certainly not least, Ryan’s biggest tip for all beach patrons is to NOT float on bodyboards or rafts when red flags are flying because it makes it much more likely a rip current will pull you out!🚩🌊

Happy Monday! Our next supervisor spotlight is Sergeant Sam Tadder! As a fourth year supervisor, with six total years at VBLS, her tips for anyone visiting the beach is to always swim with a buddy and never enter the water if you don’t know how to swim!🏊‍♀️

Her favorite part of the job is a good swim workout during morning drill, being apart of the competition team, and anytime she has the privilege to work in the north end with ! Her go to place to grab coffee at is and she loves to grab a bite to eat at either or
