Congratulations to Shannon “Shay" Goodman, OTR/L, CHT, on earning her Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) credential! 👏🖐️

Shannon holds a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy, and achieving the CHT designation represents years of advanced education, extensive clinical experience, and deep expertise in upper extremity rehabilitation. The certification requires a graduate-level degree, an active OT license, 3+ years and 4,000+ hours of focused hand and upper extremity therapy, and successful completion of the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC) exam, along with ongoing continuing education to maintain the credential.

With fewer than 7,000 Certified Hand Therapists in the United States, this achievement places Shannon among a highly specialized group of clinicians dedicated to providing the most comprehensive care for hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder conditions. 🌟 Athlete of the Month: Isaiah Simmons! 🌟
Let’s give a big shoutout to Isaiah “Ike” Simmons from - our Male Athlete of the Month! 🏈

Isaiah is a force on the football field, leading the charge on defense as a linebacker and making plays on offense as a tight end. As team captain, he’s earned 1st Team All-State honors on defense for four straight years and has officially committed to continue his football journey at the University of Pittsburgh.

But his talents don’t stop there. Isaiah shines in the classroom too, with an impressive 3.7 GPA. He’s also a proud supporter of athletics across the Maury community. This season, he and the Commodores ended on a high note, winning the Class 5 State Championship! 🏆.

At Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists, we’re excited to highlight Isaiah’s hard work and leadership. We’re also proud to be the team physicians for Norfolk Public Schools. 💙🏈

Mykhia is a true leader — serving as captain of both the Sideline Cheer and Competition Cheer teams, where she leads by example with energy, discipline, and the kind of encouragement that lifts the entire team. 📣

Off the field, she’s just as accomplished. With a 3.54 GPA, Mykhia is the FCCLA President, National Honor Society member, NAHS Treasurer, SCA Historian, and was named MVP for Sideline Cheer last season. 📚🏅

We’re proud to share that our own Wilford Gibson, MD, FAAOS was recently interviewed by American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and featured in an article highlighting his leadership and vision for the future of orthopaedic care.

Dr. Gibson currently serves as First Vice President of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and will become President at the AAOS Annual Meeting in March 2026. In the interview, he discusses collaboration, innovation, advocacy, and the Academy’s continued focus on improving musculoskeletal health for patients and the broader MSK community.
