Imagine having a leak in your roof.

You notice the leak when it’s raining because water is dripping into your kitchen.

But instead of repairing the hole you just wait until it stops raining.

Just because there’s no water in your house doesn’t mean the hole is gone.

It just means the environment isn’t exposing the hole in your roof.

But what happens when it does again?

The water will leak into your kitchen again.

Resting when you’re hurting is the same as not repairing the hole and waiting for the rain to stop.

Getting better also means feeling better.

You setting PR’s yet your body feels like it’s 30 years older than it is?

That’s not progress that’s breakdown disguised as progress.

Recovery isn’t just time spent out of the gym.

It’s in the habits you have, the things you do and the life you live.

If you give the body a proper environment for recovery it’ll do the rest.

You don’t need to add to your schedule to improve recovery.

You need to subtract. Unplug. Pause.

Nerve pain can be some of the most debilitating pain you feel.

Leaving you feeling hopeless, uncomfortable and energy drained.

If you’ve had it you know exactly what we’re talking about.

Resting won’t solve the problem. Only delay the process.

Here’s what we’d do:

1. Down-regulate your nervous system through specific breath-work techniques.
2. Perform exercises that don’t cause any greater irritation or aggravation.
3. Walk (to what can be tolerated) to promote blood flow.
4. Place an emphasis on sleep and hydration.
5. Perform nerve glides that release tension from the nerve.

Doing these over time will drastically speed up the recovery process and reduce the symptoms you’re having as well as keep you exercising and avoiding interventions that will make the pain worse in the long term.

Down-regulate your nervous system.

The thing that tends to get left out when losing weight/building muscle?

That you have to believe you’re someone capable of doing it.

How do you do that?

You don’t do it by writing affirmations on your mirrors.

You do it by following through on the things you told yourself you’d do.

By showing up when conditions aren’t perfect.

When you’re a little tired and sitting at home sounds nicer than physical exertion.

When you’ve had the long day yet you choose a meal at home versus drive-thru fast food.

When you have a million things to do in the day and you still choose to pause, take walks, and decompress.

You stack evidence by doing.

The more you stack, the easier it is to believe you’re that version of you you’re striving to be.

Why?

Movement is one of the best things you can do for your body.

And when you’re in pain a lot of the times it needs addressing in certain capacities in order to improve what is going on.

When you remove movement you remove blood flow, any necessary stimulus, mental/psychological benefits. All things that contribute to healing.

You also add in fear. Fear of movement, fear of exercise, fear of getting worse.

We’d argue this is the worst thing to come from stopping exercise when in pain.

Limiting beliefs get formed.

Confidence dwindles.

Physical capability reduces.

These things can exacerbate pain and make it a lot harder to recover fully.

It’s the most effective and efficient way to create change that STICKS.

We’re not fans of quick fix, fast path “solutions”.

Because those aren’t solutions.

They’re eye dressing.

If you’ve been training hard for a period of time with no results to show for it there’s something being missed.

We see it all the time.

Talking with prospective clients that workout 5-6x/week and no body composition change.

Months of rehab and still in pain.

Part of what doesn’t get touched on is what’s going on in daily life and how that drastically affects your baseline.

There’s more to it than how much you’re working out and how hard you’re working out.

Things like daily lifestyle factors: stress, diet, sleep, psychological health and social health all play a role.

Reduce your baseline load and you’ll see a lot of things start to improve.
