August is considered the season of the late summer which is refer to as the Season of Stomach and Spleen in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Chinese Medicine Spleen Diet To Resolve Dampness is a tip I give to my patients in additional to acupuncture and herbal medicine. Include the following foods to help improve Gut Health by resolving Dampness, heat/ inflammation and improve digestion, therefore supporting overall balance.
Vegetables: Scallions, chives, leeks, celery, potato, lettuce, mushrooms, squash, daikon radish, bok choy
Fruit: Seasonal, local, and cooked (except melons, citrus, grapes), figs, limited to 2-3 servings daily
Herbs & Essential Oils: Basil, rosemary, dill, oregano, sage, cilantro, parsley, cardamom, nutmeg, peppermint
Nuts, Seeds & Beans: Aduki beans, mung beans, pumpkin seeds, peas
Animal Protein: Yogurt, fish, chicken, beef
Grains: Corn, millet, barley, rice, rye (soaked before cooking)
Sweets: Raw honey
Teas: Green, chrysanthemum, barley
