Our View

Our View To Educate, raise awareness and change the tone of conversation on topics related to disabilities Our View was created in 2010 by Arthur Aston.

Arthur was born with spina bifida, a birth defect that impacts his mobility. Taking note of how inaccessible and non-inclusive the world can be for those living with disabilities, he created Our View with the mission to educate, raise awareness, and to change the tone of conversation about disabilities. In addition, we aim to change the perception of how the world views those who live with disabilities, and how those who live with disabilities view themselves. From October 2013-July 2025, Arthur served as Executive Director of Build Jake's Place, a New Jersey based nonprofit organization named in memory of baby Jake Nasto. Jake's Place focused on creating inclusive play spaces (playgrounds) and experiences for every body, of every ability. The organization fundraised to build two inclusive playgrounds in New Jersey, and because of their efforts, 97 new inclusive playgrounds will be built in the state, because of Jake's Law. This law allows for counties and townships in the state to apply for Green Acres grants to build new inclusive playgrounds. In the summer of 2025, Build Jake's Place officially changed names to Our View. Under Arthur's leadership as Executive Director, Our View operates the Camden county New Jersey Miracle League, a baseball league for disabled children and adults. We host days of play at local Jake's Place playgrounds, facilitates school assemblies and workplace seminars on topics related to disabilities, and produces Our View, The Podcast. Happy New Year! Our View The Podcast is back with a new episode today!

Known on Instagram as “Your Favorite Disabled Hottie” Nila Morton joins me, your host, Arthur Aston today. Nila and I discuss our visits to The White House under the Biden Administration in 2024, and how she is still dealing with an airplane travel experience that happened during the 2024 holiday season.

A note from the host. This conversation with Nila and I took place in the winter of 2025, and does contain content about self harm.

As 2025 comes to a close in just a few short hours, our hearts are full.

On behalf of our board members and families, thank you to our incredible community for your unwavering support.

Our View began in 2010 with a simple but powerful mission: to educate, raise awareness, and change the tone of the conversation around disabilities, and we could never do this important work for so many years without your belief in that mission.

2025 was a milestone year for us as we became a nonprofit and hosted our very first fundraiser! As we look ahead to 2026, we are overflowing with gratitude, excitement, and hope for what’s to come.

January brings new episodes of Our View: The Podcast, and we’re launching a brand new merch store for Our View and the Camden County, NJ Miracle League

Spring 2026 marks our 12th year of Miracle League baseball. We’ll also continue hosting Days of Play at inclusive playgrounds, and our school assemblies and our workplace seminars on topics related to disabilities, anti-bullying, accessibility, and inclusion.

We also look forward to celebrating new inclusive playground openings in local communities, because of Jake’s Law.

Thank you for being part of this journey and for standing with us as we work to change the tone of conversation about disabilities.
Wishing you and your families a happy, healthy, and joyful 2026.

We can’t wait to share another exciting year with you!

Meandering Scars is a documentary film by Kody Leibowitz and Allison Norlian. The film tells the story of Erika Bogan, a wheelchair user who climbs Mount Kilimanjaro to help raise awareness about mental health struggles that she and those in the disability community experience.

If you are local to the Philadelphia area, The Bryn Mawr Film Institute is screening Meandering Scars next Sunday, January 4th. You can find out more details about the film and purchase tickets to the screening here: https://www.meanderingscars.com/event-details/meandering-scars-l-philadelphia-2

Did you know: People with disabilities experience significantly higher rates of mental health challenges, with nearly one-third reporting frequent mental distress, almost 5 times more than those without disabilities

Adults with disabilities are 3.5 to 4.6 times more likely to have frequent mental distress or major depressive episodes.

Earlier this year, Toronto Blue Jays Outfielder, and Camden County NJ native, Joey Loperfido raffled his Debut Patch Card and donated the proceeds of the raffle to our Miracle League.

Last night Joey's generosity continued when he and Our View hosted a private meet and greet holiday event for our Camden County New Jersey Miracle League players and their families.

Joey and his family and friends gifted the players in attendance with stocking stuffers and gift cards to Dicks Sporting Goods!

Joey, thank you for your friendship, kindness, and generosity that you continue to show to our players and their families. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Shout out to our mascot Homer for coming to hang out with us! We appreciate you!

Thank you to our league sponsors, Camden County Government for allowing us to use the space and for providing the photographer, Avi for the evening who captured these amazing photos of the event.rh

Earlier this week, Our View Executive Director Art Aston, Our View Board Members, Build Jake's Place co-founders Kathleen Nasto and Jim & Lynn Cummings, along with Jake’s Place Advisory Board Members, proudly joined Pennsauken Township to celebrate the grand opening of “Welcome Home Jake’s Place”, the township’s first fully all-inclusive playground!

This amazing playground is one of 97 inclusive playgrounds being built across New Jersey thanks to Jake’s Law, passed in 2018, which helps counties and townships create welcoming play spaces for children and families of all abilities through Green Acres grants.

Pennsauken holds a very special place in the hearts of the Nasto and Cummings families. Jake was raised here, and his family still calls Pennsauken home.

We know this playground will be filled with laughter, joy, and unforgettable memories for families throughout the local and surrounding communities for years to come.

Welcome home, Jake’s Place! 🛝
