🚨 Tier 1 for Everyone: Day of Action THIS THURSDAY! 🚨

Thanks to the incredible organizing by members across the state, NJEA has surpassed 112,000 petition signatures calling for an end to New Jersey’s unfair pension tiers! 🙌🔥

This Thursday, Dec. 4, NJEA members will be in Trenton for Lobby Day, delivering those signatures to Governor Murphy, Senate President Scutari, and Assembly Speaker Coughlin. They’ll be urging legislators to fix the harmful tier system that makes it harder to recruit and retain educators—and hurts students.

But even if you can’t be in Trenton, you can still take action! 💪

In the South, the HCR Committee will gather to collect feminine hygiene items for young girls and women to assemble packages for donation at Period Poverty. 🚨 THE LEGISLATURE IS BACK IN SESSION! 🚨

After the election break, the NJ Legislature is back—Senate committees have been busy, and the Assembly returns after Thanksgiving. This “lame duck” period means things will move FAST. Bills stuck for years can suddenly gain momentum! 🏃‍♂️💨

Our top focus right now: PENSION JUSTICE. 🎯 We celebrated a win when Gov. Murphy signed legislation allowing workers with up to a 10-year break in service to return to their original pension tier. Learn about our campaign and join upcoming events!

Education matters too. NJEA is pushing for stronger charter school accountability and ending exit testing. These bills are advancing—your voice counts! 📣 Send your legislators an email asking them to support these key issues.

📅 Mark your calendars: Last voting day is January 12. A new legislature is sworn in January 13, and the governor’s term starts January 20.

Big wins in the November elections bolstered the Democrats with a historic majority. This sets the stage for action on critical education and pension policies.

PLUS, the federal government shutdown ended, but vigilance remains as Congress needs to act on healthcare subsidies soon.
