For the most part, testosterone estrogen, and progesterone levels are not very useful to me. They don’t tell me everything that I need to know. So if you’re well-being is being reduced to nothing more than a hormone level, you are receiving sub standard care.

my job, as I see it, is to bust myths and call out pseudoscience and sham care.

Continues to baffle me why more people are not being given vaginal hormone therapy. No need to spend lots of money or put yourself through the pain and torment and continued discomfort or bladder irritability. Ladies, this is an easy decision.

There are several factors that weigh into how we decide which estrogen and which dose is right for you. Suffice it to say we will never go straight to an injection or pellet because those are rarely the best ways for women to receive this treatment.

Pharmacy hijinks… I love a collaborative relationship with pharmacists and for the most part they do a great job. I have seen many instances where they have caught medication errors or inappropriate dosing or other things that could’ve caused problems for patients. So they are true partners that I value
But some pharmacies are used to prescribing hormones and some are not. So if you get information from a pharmacist that seems confusing, please let our office know so we can help work through this. I’ve always invited the pharmacist to call me directly if they have questions so we can work in a more collaborative fashion. But unfortunately, sometimes that does not happen and the pharmacists who don’t understand hormones very well can scare patients.

unfortunately, though pharmacists can also be blamed for the decisions of health insurance company and pharmacy benefit managers. I know it is frustrating to find out that your insurance plan does not cover very simple hormone therapy, and if that happens to you, you should raise hell with your employer. But it is not the pharmacist’s fault and you’re always free to pay cash for the product.
