Choking can happen fast, and knowing what to do matters.

How to perform abdominal thrusts:
✅ Stand behind the person with a wide athletic stance
✅Place your fist just above their belly button
✅Grab your fist with your other hand
✅Give quick, in and upward thrusts

Repeat until the object is expelled or help arrives.

⚠️ If the person becomes unresponsive, call 911 and begin CPR.

Simple skills. Lifesaving impact.

💚This is what the behind-the-scenes looks like after a full week of CPR classes.

Last week we were at Highland Local School District certifying their 7th grade students to be lifesavers, and our equipment room definitely shows it. 😅

A little messy… but completely worth it to see so many students learning how to save a life.

🦸🏼‍♂️Hometown Heroes right here in ! ❤️

Thank you Officer Marlene and the Wadsworth Police Department! 👏🏼

Officer Anthony Merlene was recently recognized with a Life Saving Award for his courageous efforts at a house fire on January 30, 2026. At approximately 2:19 a.m., an elderly female called 911 and reported that the chair in her living room and the surrounding area was on fire. The caller reported that she could not get out of her house. Officer Merlene quickly responded and grabbed his sledgehammer from his cruiser. He ran up to the front of the house and could hear the female inside calling for help. After breaching the front door with the sledgehammer, he called out into the smoke-filled residence to locate the woman inside. He entered the house, located the woman, and pulled her outside to safety. Officer Merlene then compassionately cared for her until EMS arrived on scene.

Officer Merlene's quick actions saved a life from a perilous situation. We are grateful for his service to our citizens and to our community. Officer Merlene’s body camera can be viewed in the comments of this post. Congratulations, Officer Merlene!
