"The memories lie in the moments... when we let the imperfect parts simply be additions to the chapters of our stories. To remember that when things go āwrongā... they often end up becoming some of our favorite things to not forget." ~ The Thinking Branch āØā¤ļøāØ
A few years ago, our Christmas tree fell over while we were watching a holiday movie.
Bulbs went flying.
Kids were crying.
And I was silently panicking that all of my sentimental ornaments may have shattered.
The good news? Most of them survived.
The better news? The ones that didnāt⦠ended up giving us one of our favorite holiday stories.
Including this one.
An ornament my husband and I got for our wedding.
The poor groomās head and leg broke off.
The brideās arm cracked.
It looked like their first marital fight didn't go well. (ha!)
We stood there, laughed, and hung it right back on the tree when we got it upright again.
It didnāt ruin our decor.
It added character.
And every year since, when we pull it out of the box and see that wobbly little couple, we smile and say, āRemember the year the tree fell?ā
We spend so much of December chasing perfect, don't we?
The perfect gifts.
The perfect cards.
The perfect picture to post.
The perfect version of the tradition we want to control.
But hereās the secret most of us forget:
The real stories live in the cracks.
In the mishaps we didnāt plan.
In the glitches that force us to pause.
In the moments that look nothing like Pinterest ⦠and everything like real life.
The memories lie in the moments... when we let the imperfect parts simply be additions to the chapters of our stories.
To remember that when things go āwrongā ...
they often end up becoming some of our favorite things to not forget.
