Zero Discrimination Day is observed on March 1 as a global call to promote dignity, equality, and inclusion for all. Discrimination — in any form — limits opportunity and creates barriers to full participation in community life. At AILH, we remain committed to advancing access, self-determination, and equal rights for people with disabilities and all members of our community. Creating inclusive spaces is ongoing work. Together, we continue building communities rooted in respect and belonging.

The Life Choices Women’s Support Group💜💚 recently gathered for an engaging and uplifting session, welcoming a new addition to the group. Participants enjoyed playing Uzzle, a tabletop puzzle game that encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and positive interaction. The activity created a relaxed and supportive environment where members could connect, share experiences, and strengthen peer relationships. The group continues to provide a safe and empowering space for women to build confidence, community, and mutual support.

Harriet Tubman was born into slavery in the early 1820s and endured severe violence as a child. As a teenager, she suffered a traumatic brain injury that caused lifelong seizures and sudden sleep episodes. After escaping slavery, she made the courageous decision to return to the South again and again, guiding approximately 70 people to freedom through the Underground Railroad.

During the Civil War, she served as a nurse and scout for the Union Army becoming the first woman to lead an armed military operation in U.S. history.

Harriet Tubman’s story is one of resilience, faith, and unwavering commitment to freedom. Her life reminds us that leadership and impact are not defined by circumstance but by courage and purpose

Self-advocacy is one of the strongest tools for change ✨ When disabled individuals share their experiences, request accommodations, and participate in civic life, communities become more inclusive and equitable for everyone.

Through peer support, skills training, and advocacy, Independent Living Centers help individuals build confidence and access the tools they need to speak up and lead.

Voices of Ability reminds us that lived experience drives progress.
