🌱✨ Existential thoughts can feel so heavy: “What does it all matter?”

I love working across lifespan development, with adults and kiddos. A toy dinosaur reminded me of something important when working with an adult client. 🦖

Dinosaurs lived millions of years ago, doing nothing more than eating, surviving, and eventually disappearing. And yet… today they spark joy, curiosity, and awe.

Meaning isn’t always grand or cosmic. It’s in the small ripples we leave behind:

💫 stocking shelves so someone finds their favorite snack on a hard day
💫 teaching a young mind
💫 putting a flower pot outside that brightens a neighbor’s walk
💫 letting someone by who may be in route to an emergency

You matter. Even in ways you may never see.
And sometimes, it takes a plastic dinosaur to remind us. 💛

“Ooo! I had stuff I wanted to talk about and I’ve completely forgotten.”

Sound familiar? You’re not “failing therapy” (there’s no grades anyways!) Good news, you’re normal! Under pressure, especially with vulnerable information, you’re in a dorsal vagal “freeze” response. To help:

➡️ make yourself notes during the week
➡️ come in comfy clothes to session
➡️ plan at least 30 minutes to an hour of post session processing/quiet time

✨ Feeling Overwhelmed? You’re not alone. Here are 4 reminders to protect your peace:
1. Not everything is urgent.
When life feels like “too much,” ask: What needs to be done today? What can wait until tomorrow? Next week? Give yourself permission to not do it all at once.
2. Protect your mental energy.
Be intentional about what you watch, listen to, and who you spend time with. Your mind needs safe input just as much as your body needs good fuel.
3. Prioritize the pause.
Notice the smell of your coffee, savor your meals without screens, or take 2 minutes to stretch. Small pauses re-center you more than you realize.
4. Stop, “Drop” & Breathe.
If panic or overwhelm hits, step away. Breathe. Try your best coping tool—cold compress, a funny video, even a sour candy. Resetting is progress.
💛 Your mental health matters. One step, one pause, one breath at a time.

🌞 SUMMERTIME SELF-CARE 🌿
Staying grounded while the world heats up

1. ☀️ Keep a Gentle Routine
    •    Anchor your day with morning or evening rituals
    •    Set weekly intentions or “theme days” (Mindful Monday, etc.)

2. 💧 Hydrate + Nourish
    •    Drink plenty of water (aim for 6–8 glasses/day)
    •    Enjoy fresh fruits, crisp salads, and mood-boosting snacks

3. 🏃‍♀️ Move Your Body, Kindly
    •    Try walking, swimming, stretching, or dancing
    •    Movement isn’t punishment—it’s care

4. 📵 Limit Digital Overload
    •    Set social media timers
    •    Try “sunset screen time” to help with sleep

5. 💬 Connect With Others
    •    Plan low-stress get-togethers
    •    Text a friend, join a community event, or just say hi to a neighbor

6. 😌 Rest Without Guilt
    •    Give yourself permission to do nothing
    •    Sleep in, nap, or just lie in the grass and listen to the wind

7. 🧘‍♀️ Mental Health Check-Ins
    •    Journaling, therapy, or simply noticing your emotions
    •    Ask: “What do I need today?”

You deserve care too. 🌿

School is about to be out! is a great time to also incorporate pieces of planning for college for all students. Here are some thoughts:
🧠 Is Junior Year REALLY the Most Important?
Let’s break it down. ⬇️
We often hear:
💬 “Junior year matters most for college apps!”
But… that’s only part of the story.

📊 Colleges prioritize unweighted GPA.
That means your student’s Freshman + Sophomore years count—big time.

📌 The stronger the GPA going into Junior year, the better.
It’s simple math:
Start strong ➝ Less stress ➝ Better odds

❌ Don’t rely on Junior year to “fix” your GPA.
It takes a lot more effort to lift a low average later—and it may not move the needle much.

Course Planning Tips
✅ Choose courses that challenge without overwhelming.
✅ Focus on consistency - colleges prefer to see a couple advance classes with high performance consistency to all advance classes with mediocre grades.
✅ Set yourself up for success—not burnout.

Mistakes happen. That’s okay.
But smart planning early helps your child…
💡 Work smarter—not harder.

💡Extras that matter:
✅ Volunteer, community service, internships, shadowing in your intended area of study matter more on college applications than a job in retail or fast food.
✅ Professional associations of your recommendations are also important. Start building relationships with people who can set you up for success.
✅ Prepare early for SAT/ACT: even 2-3 hours a week for 6 months leading up to taking the tests will make a tremendous difference on helping your child perform on a standardized test. Cramming and increasing preparatory anxiety immediately prior is not ideal.

💬 Your story could be someone else’s turning point.
There are so many people out there who’ve thought,
“I probably should talk to someone about this...”

But then—fear steps in. Or stigma. Or just not knowing where to begin.

That’s where you come in.
✨ Take a moment today to share a favorite quote, a tip that helped, or something meaningful from your mental health journey.
✨ Talk about your first therapy session, what surprised you, or what kept you going.
✨ Normalize it. Make it relatable. Show that therapy isn’t just okay—it’s brave, healing, and human.

You never know who’s reading and just needs one more nudge to say yes to healing. 💚
