Inverted Reality and 1-on-1 PT

Fifteen years ago, we went on the internet to escape reality.

We’d get online to disconnect from the noise of everyday life — to relax, to unwind, or just to get a break from the real world.

Now it feels like the opposite.

Today, people are doing everything they can to escape the internet. We step away from screens to feel normal again. We go for walks, spend time outside, and try to get back to something that feels real.

It’s almost like the world flipped upside down.
An inverted reality.

And honestly… the same thing has happened in healthcare.

Fifteen years ago, care was simple. You saw one provider. Most importantly, they had time to actually listen.

Now it often feels very different.

Appointments are rushed. Care is often divided between multiple people. And sometimes the plan feels more like a checklist than a real conversation.

Wildfires and 6 areas in your body

A once in a lifetime birthday trip this past September led Danielle and I up the Icefields Parkway to Jasper, a mountain town in the Canadian Rockies.

Just a year earlier, a once in a century wildfire almost took out the town. It was saved but the surrounding region was decimated.

Many factors led to the massive destruction after the fire started, including record dryness from extreme heat and drought.

Another element, yet controversial, is that regular prescribed burns could have reduced the amount of dry, flammable vegetation in the forests.

When fires do start (and they will), it would then burn slower, cooler, and be far easier to control.

This reminds me of 6 areas in the human body.

These areas are the most common regions for fires, as they are most prone to age-related changes and are the contributing reasons for pain and disability.

But, what if we could have regular, prescribed burns to the 6 areas?

If a fire starts — and it will in one capacity or another —wouldn’t it be better less intense, less hot and easier to control?

Just as regular prescribed burns are costly and labor-intensive for the forests, this can be the same for the human body.

But in reality, it may not be too labor-intensive and costly — you can learn to self-treat through a powerful mechanism — exercise.
