Adam's story from The Autism Project highlights the power of support in neurodiverse individuals. His reflections on his life journey are insightful, read along to learn more.

“For years, I thought I was just… getting by.”

Adam didn’t know he was autistic until he was 40. For decades, he masked, adapted, and quietly navigated work, family, and social life. When he and his daughter received their diagnoses, it was both confusing and illuminating — a chance to finally understand himself, his challenges, and his strengths.

In this installment of Voices of the Spectrum, Adam shares his journey of surviving, learning to thrive, and discovering what true support looks like for autistic adults. His story is honest, heartfelt, and a reminder that every autistic voice matters.

Be conscious of the foods that nourish your body, choose wisely
Write down what you value and spend your money on that
Bring laughter and music into each week
When your mind and body ask you to rest, rest...
