Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog in Western Pennsylvania who traditionally “predicts” the weather, did not oblige. It was announced that, upon emerging from the ground, Phil saw his shadow, meaning that six more weeks of winter are upon us. 🥶❄️☃️🌨️

For Black History Month 2026, the theme is “A Century of Black History,” recognizing 100 years of celebrating African American history. In the field of physical therapy, this is an opportunity to highlight the contributions of Black practitioners to rehabilitation.
Here are two key pioneers:
* Bessie Blount Griffin (1914–2009): A pioneering physical therapist, nurse, and inventor. She is renowned for inventing a device that allowed amputees to feed themselves, which she famously donated to the French government.
* Theodore “Ted” Corbitt (1919–2007): Often referred to as the “father of long-distance running,” Corbitt was a PT who helped define the profession, specializing in pain management and rehabilitation.

Our Story

In May of 2012, HDPT co-founders Ed Harding, PTA and Dr. Glenn D’Addario, MSPT, DPT, set out to create an exceptional place where they could be of service to as many people as possible. After eight years, they are very proud and excited to be accomplishing just that. Through diligence and dedication, their clinic has grown from the 3 staff members it opened with, to over 24 employees at the start of March. Most importantly, they have been able to help thousands of patients. They have also mentored approximately 50 high school and physical therapy students. They make many appearances at area health fairs, high schools, colleges and community events, as well as contribute to numerous charities and their events. In 2013, they received national recognition for their overall success by winning ADVANCE Magazine’s “Best PT Practice” silver medal, and in 2015 they were named the Wakefield Lynnfield Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year.

In response to their continued growth and success, they even expanded their business and opened a second HDPT location at 99 South Bedford Street, Suite 6, in Burlington, MA in November of 2017.

“As always, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our referrers and advocates for helping make HDPT’s eighth year an ongoing success,” said CEO & co-founder Ed Harding. “Thank you for continuing to support our local, small business, for sending us patients and for giving HDPT such a positive community presence. As we continue to grow and expand, we know that we would not be where we are today without the enduring encouragement of our friends and family,” said Harding. “In the last 8 years, we have helped a lot of people, and had a lot of fun doing it. Glenn and I sincerely hope to be able to continue that for as long as we can!”
