Calming Breath Doula Services LLC

Calming Breath Doula Services LLC As a birth doula, we help new parents navigate the pregnancy, birthing and postpartum experience. I am independent and self-employed.

As a birth doula, I accompany women in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. I draw on my professional training, knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort and, as needed, communication with the staff to make sure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions as they arise in labor. I can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, soothing touch, positioning and other techniques for comfort. As your doula, I am working for you, not your caregiver or hospital.

Midwives and doulas both support birth. BUT they play very different roles.

Midwives are medical providers. They monitor the health of the birthing parent and baby, perform exams, order labs, catch the baby, and manage clinical care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Doulas are non-medical support professionals. They provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. Doulas do not perform medical tasks, but they help families understand options, navigate decisions, and feel supported and confident.

They don’t replace each other, they work best together. A midwife cares for your medical needs, while a doula cares for you.

Pregnancy cravings are common and they’re not random! So, listen to your body.

Cravings for sweet, salty, sour, crunchy, or cold foods can be linked to hormones, energy needs, hydration, or nutrients like iron or sodium. Sometimes your body is asking for fuel. Sometimes it’s about comfort, nausea relief, or sensory changes.

Cravings don’t mean you’re doing pregnancy wrong. They’re information. Aim for balance, nourishment, and safety. Be sure to mention extreme or non-food cravings to your provider.

Coping techniques for labor don’t start in labor and they don’t end after birth.

Breathing, movement, relaxation, positioning, mindset, and comfort measures work best when they’re practiced during pregnancy. Using these tools prenatally helps your body and brain recognize them when labor begins, making them more effective when you need them most.

And these skills don’t disappear once the baby arrives. Those same techniques often become invaluable in early parenthood, especially during recovery, long nights, moments of overwhelm, and adjustment.

Coping skills aren’t just birth tools. They’re life tools you carry into parenthood.

Want to learn and practice these skills before birth? Reach out to learn more about prenatal education and doula support.

A doula’s role goes far beyond birth day.

Doulas offer reassurance, encouragement, and a steady, caring presence throughout the entire birthing journey, supporting both the birthing parent and their partner. They help parents feel informed and confident by sharing evidence-based information about pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, answering questions, and addressing concerns as they arise.

Doulas also support advocacy by helping communicate preferences and birth plans, ensuring families feel heard and respected within their care team. Just as importantly, they support dads and partners. Helping them understand what’s happening, how to be involved, and how to best support their partner during labor and beyond.

Hydration matters during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and breastfeeding.

Your body is doing a lot: growing a baby, healing after birth, and making milk. All of it depends on adequate fluids. Dehydration can show up as fatigue, headaches, dizziness, constipation, or even a sudden dip in milk supply.

Keep water nearby, sip often, and remember that soups, fruits, and other hydrating foods count too. Hydration isn’t a luxury. It’s foundational care for you and your baby.
