Very proud of playing a small part in helping make this great one. This IVF baby will be one of the better ones we helped make this year do sure! Don’t miss out!

Sneak peak!

We are really excited about this December set..The leading introduction is 498. She is our first lamb out of our Becca donor from Beam Ranch Club Lambs we purchased last spring through the the Royal Flush Genetic sale in Reno. This lady, along with many of her friends, will be posted soon on for our February 4th sale on SC Online Sales .Don't miss it!

Over the next few days let’s talk about different terms and items used in our protocol to get your girls AI’d!

Previous posts
Step1: the CIDR
Step 1: continued: CIDR applicator
Step 2: lute/estroplan/estrumate

Step 3: PG600

PG600 is an injectable hormone combination designed for swine to induce fertile estrus. It is used to synchronize breeding, reduce non-productive days, and improve performance. It is also very safe for use in other minor animal species such as sheep and goats.

PG 600 is labeled to be administered SQ, subcutaneously in swine. In sheep and goats we typically give intramuscularly in the neck area. We recommend using an 18 gauge 1 inch needle.

Research has shown the use of pg600 in sheep and goats tightens the window of the timing of ovulation in the population it is used. This is why it’s used at the time of cidr pull in the synchronization protocol and results in increased conception rates.

The package contains 2 bottles, a small one with a dry pill in the bottom and a much larger one with liquid. First, pull 3-5cc of liquid out and put into the small vial to reconstitute the dry pill, once mixed very well redraw the 3-5 cc of new concentration and add back into the larger bottle and mix throughly before drawing up the dose for your animal. A fully reconstituted vial is 25 cc.

Please note that the dose volume and cidr pull/concurrent pg600 administration timing need to be precisely determined by species and breed. Do not use the full 5cc swine dose*

Reconstituted solution must be refrigerated; unused mixed solution can be frozen in syringes for up to six months.

As with all fertility meds please be sure to wear proper protection, gloves, and be mindful not to stick yourself with the needle!
Please contact Dr Todd Wolff with any and all questions!

Over the next few days let’s talk about different terms and items used in our protocol to get your girls AI’d!

Step 1 was Cidr insert (see previous posts)

Ai protocol Step 2: estrumate/estroplan/Lutalyse

estroPLAN (cloprostenol sodium):
estroPLAN works by causing the rapid regression (lysis) of the corpus luteum (better know as CL), a structure in the o***y necessary for maintaining pregnancy. It is widely used to manipulate the estrous (heat) cycle of a group of animals to align with specific management practices or timed artificial insemination programs. This product is basically generic Estrumate.

Lutalyse (dinoprost):
Lutalyse(Lute) is a prescription veterinary drug used in cattle, swine, and horses to manage reproductive cycles by synchronizing estrus(heat cycles) to affect the corpus luteum.

Estrumate (cloprostenol);
Estrumate (cloprostenol injection) is a prescription synthetic prostaglandin analogue used to induce luteolysis (regression of the corpus luteum) and manage the estrous cycle.

All 3 of these meds do the EXACT same job, the difference: active ingredient! In the protocol we are using 1 of these meds to help with synchronizing your girls heat cycles! Some work a touch better than others, and due to the different ingredient means different concentrations. Please be sure to read dosing instructions on the protocol given for the medication your using as some will be 1cc (estroplan/estrumate) and another may be 2cc(Lutalyse). **Sheep dose is different than cattle dose.**

We recommend administering this 24-36 hrs prior to cidr pull on timed Ai bc that is very close to the natural timing of events to optimize synchronization of ovulation.

Embryo transfer Recipients receive this injection at cidr pull combined w pg600(see future posts). We do this to minimize extra handling/stress and we still see great success rates. We also recommend use of one of these 3 products at cidr pull for natural matings.

Ivf donors are given this bc the CL takes up space on the o***y that might hide developing follicles that we plan to harvest at the aspiration date.

All of these meds can be used for other reproductive reasons, inductions(making does go into labor), and including termination of fetuses. Example: very young ewe/doe gets bred by an escaped buck/ram, contact Dr Todd Wolff for instructions on how to make sure your properly handling and dosing the medication to keep your girls safe!

PLEASE BE AWARE: ANY of these meds are readily absorbed through the skin and can cause bronchospasms or abortion in humans, which mean you MUST handle with care wearing proper protection, preferably gloves. Accidental skin contact should be washed off immediately with soap and water, if pregnant contact your doctor immediately. cleo

Step 1 continued: CIDR applicator

HOW do you insert the CIDR we talked about in the previous post? That’s a great question! There is a special tool just for that!

A CIDR applicator is a specialized tool to insert the CIDR into the va**na. The applicator, often plastic with a curved head, loads the T-shaped CIDR (which has wings and a tail) and facilitates its placement, after which the wings expand inside the animal, releasing hormones to synchronize heat for artificial insemination.

Applicators are shaped for different animals (cattle vs. sheep/goats) and have features like grooves to hold the device and a mechanism to release it. The application process Involves loading the device, (optionally) lightly lubricating the applicator, inserting it into the animal, and releasing the wings, leaving only the tail visible for later removal. Too much l**e can possibly make the CIDR fall out too easily.

Please be sure to wear proper protection, such as gloves, as progesterone can be absorbed through the skin!

Free Education:

I was thinking of doing a breakdown of the ā€œtermsā€ people hear in the Ai protocol.

Over the series of posts let’s talk about different terms and items used in our protocol to get your girls AI’d!

Let’s start with step 1: The CIDR

What is a CIDR? A CIDR is a Controlled Internal Drug Release specifically for Progesterone in this case. It looks like a little T- shaped white plastic piece, if similar to an IUD for humans! But technically it is a va**nal insert. The CIDR is what synchronizes the heat cycles for a group of animals to be bred at the same time!

How does it sync the animals together? The CIDR will slowly release the Progesterone hormone blocking the animal from a natural heat cycle occurring while it stays in for 14 days. After it’s pulled out on the 14th day the drastic drop in the hormone levels causes a heat cycle!

Using a cidr will help you better manage your herd for tighter lambing/kidding windows as well as helping with early development in younger ewes/does! By using a cidr in younger does you can stimulate their very first heat cycle!

Please be sure to wear proper protection, such as gloves, as progesterone can be absorbed through the skin!

Contact Dr Todd Wolff to find out how to get scheduled for the 2026 breeding season and get your CIDRs shipped to you!
