SamTalia is by Samantha Marie, a choreographer who began her journey of holistic well-being after struggling with depression and anxiety for several years, then had a string of heart and other health issues snowballing on top of it. Through studying nutrition and mind-body connection, she was able to discontinue all prescription medications and become physically active once more. Not wanting to see others go through the trouble she did alone, she obtained her Personal Trainer and Nutritionist Certifications in 2013 to help others in their journey of health and happiness. In 2014 the Natural Beauty and Body Blog was launched with workouts, nutrition tips, and product reviews in health and beauty. 2015 brought Natural Solutions from DoTerra essential oils into the newly formed SamTalia which encompassed fitness, nutrition, and natural health alternatives. In recent years Samantha has began speaking out raising awareness on normalizing mental and emotional wellness, sharing from her personal experiences and developing inclusive platforms for people and companies to feel safe and comfortable addressing these issues we all face. She's continued educational certifications to support this cause, including becoming a Certified Holistic Life Coach, Fitness Nutritionist, and Corporate Wellness Coach. During the first year of the pandemic in the San Francisco East Bay Area, going out for walks or jogs in the sun really helped me shake off a bit of that cooped-up feeling.
It doesn't have to be anything major. In fact, I believe the most important walks are the ones that are the most difficult to start: just being able to get out of your house for 10 minutes can be a huge step in the right direction.

Without taking those first few steps, it's difficult to move on to bigger ones. Fresh air and not feeling so confined can have a positive effect on your mental well-being.

Walking outside has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, and can help clear your mind into more productive thinking.
A brisk walk releases endorphins which contribute to a positive mood. For stressful days, sad times, or when your brain feels like it's running all over the place, taking a walk is a great way to reset.

Sometimes I forget how important it is, then I have a hard strength workout and am sore, or notice myself feeling more agitated, and I think of how beneficial it would be to take a yoga class or do a home stretch workout.

I actually used to think I didn't like yoga when I was younger - turns out I just didn't prefer the type of yoga I was introduced to.
๐Ÿ’กSome people like the flow of Vinyasa, while others like the structure and challenge of Bikram. I love Hatha and a little Yin, though you might like Nidra or Restorative.

Mixing up a couple of different styles is good for your body and mind! Yoga and stretching help release tension we don't even realize we're holding, both physically and emotionally. Give it a try and see what style resonates with you! ๐Ÿ™‚

"A half-assed workout is better than no workout" has literally been a saying of mine since 2013 when I got physically capable after my health issues, got my personal trainer certification, and have been going to the gym (or other fitness workouts) since. ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ’ชI never used to lift heavy things until after I started getting healthy and working out at a gym regularly, but now it's one of my favorite things to do to feel better. Something about having a goal for a certain weight to push or taking the grunting effort to lift something makes me feel accomplished.

When I'm bummed out, any little bit of accomplishment means a lot.
Sometimes (okay, a lot of the time) I don't even feel like working out, but I know I will feel better if I do, and I know that if I don't work out, I don't like the way I feel overall.

Two biggest things I remind myself:
1) The hardest part of going to the gym is just getting there. Seriously. Many times I've told myself I don't have to do anything once I get to the gym, just go there and sit on the bench for 45 minutes to an hour or whatever the minimum length of time I set for myself is. 99% of the time I end up having a great workout though. Just get there!

And 2) A half-assed workout is better than no workout! Maybe you're tired and don't have energy, or you're recovering from an injury, or just plain don't feel well. You don't need to go all out, just do something.

๐Ÿ’กHowever, cardio also increases endorphins (happy vibes!) and when I do intense cardio (like Insanity DVDs I've had for a decade), I notice not only do I not have brain space to think about some basic worries, but my mind ends up having creative thoughts and ideas on things to do. Positive ideas.

A good cardio workout can be a great boost of inspiration that you've never thought of.
๐ŸฅตToo much for right now? Make it a goal to take a 10-minute walk if you can, and start from there until you feel ready for the next step, whatever that might be.

๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธThat goal of a 10-minute walk is what got me started, and I wouldn't be where I am now if I didn't start there.
โœ…Remember: movement is medicine, and you don't have to love it to benefit from it.
