✨ Community Spotlight: Asher Hoffman, Vital Link Medical Alert Systems ✨

This month we’re proud to recognize community partners who help older adults live safely and independently at home.

Today we’re shining a spotlight on Asher Hoffman, who runs Oakland-based Vital Link Medical Alert Systems, a family-owned company serving seniors across the Bay Area. The company was founded by Asher’s father, and he grew up witnessing firsthand how important it is for older adults to have access to help when they need it.

At Vital Link, Asher continues that legacy by focusing on reliability, personal service, and treating every client the way he would want his own family treated. From in-person installation and support to simple month-to-month pricing, his goal is to make safety at home straightforward and accessible for seniors and their families.

Asher also works closely with local senior organizations, care providers, and families throughout the Bay Area, helping ensure older adults can maintain their independence while knowing help is always within reach.

Thank you, Asher, for your commitment to supporting seniors and strengthening our community. Your work truly makes a difference. ❤️

On World Health Day, we pause to reflect that longevity is not just about lifespan, it’s about healthspan.

Healthspan refers to the years of life spent living well, staying active, connected, and independent — not just the number of years we live.

For older adults, maintaining healthspan often means staying connected to familiar routines, community, and the comfort of home. Compassionate in-home care can play an important role in supporting both physical well-being and emotional health.

At Hillendale, our caregivers and care managers are proud to support seniors and the families who love them, helping older adults continue aging safely, independently, and with dignity.

At Hillendale, our mission is simple: to enrich the lives of aging adults and the families and caregivers that support them.

Our five core values guide how we care for seniors and how we support one another as a team.

We've got this.
At Hillendale, we've got you. We collaborate with caregivers, clients, and families to create comprehensive care plans. Our skilled and diverse team brings a wide range of expertise to every engagement, helping provide peace of mind for clients and families.

Strive for the best.
We continuously seek new ways to enhance support for graceful aging by developing best-in-class resources for our caregivers. By combining innovative technology with compassionate, personalized care, we work to create the best possible experience for clients and caregivers alike.

We care deeply.
Compassion and respect guide every interaction. We understand the physical and emotional challenges of aging and prioritize empathy and kindness in everything we do, helping seniors maintain independence and quality of life at home.

We pause to listen.
We listen. We learn. We want to understand what matters most to our clients and their families. By valuing each person’s experiences and preferences, we communicate with clarity and provide personalized, thoughtful care.

Seniors are our people.
We empower our clients to age with dignity, independence, and safety—on their own terms. Seniors are a vital part of our community, and we cherish the meaningful connections we build with the older adults we serve.

✨ Community Spotlight: Dr. Kory Langwell | Occupational Therapy Month ✨

In honor of Occupational Therapy Month, we’re proud to spotlight Dr. Kory Langwell, PT, DPT of Unlimited Potential Rehab & Wellness. Alongside his team of occupational therapists, Kory helps older adults regain independence and confidence at home through thoughtful, personalized care.

Q: What inspired you to become a therapist?
A: Helping people return to the activities that matter most to them. Whether it’s getting dressed independently, cooking a favorite meal, or safely navigating their home, those everyday moments are what make life meaningful.

Q: What does occupational therapy focus on in the home?
A: Occupational therapy supports individuals in safely performing daily activities after illness, injury, or functional decline. This may include improving hand function, strengthening cognitive skills, adapting the home environment, or building routines that support independence. It often works hand-in-hand with physical therapy to support changing physical abilities.

Q: What do you love most about working with older adults?
A: Seeing someone regain confidence in their abilities. When a client realizes they can safely do something again that they thought they had lost, it’s incredibly rewarding.

Thank you, Kory, and your team, for the work you do to help people live more independently and safely at home.

At Hillendale, we’re grateful to work alongside dedicated therapy teams like Kory’s to support safe, independent living at home.

🌟 Caregiver Spotlight: Catt J.

We’re proud to recognize Catherine “Catt” John from our Santa Rosa office as this month's Caregiver Spotlight 💛

Although Catt is a newer member of the Hillendale team, she has already made a lasting impression. She consistently receives outstanding feedback from the clients she serves and brings genuine compassion, warmth, and reliability into every home. Catt is always eager to help and approaches her work with a positive attitude that truly brightens her clients’ days.

As Catt puts it:

“I love being a caregiver because I get the chance to work directly with people and make a difference in their lives. I enjoy helping to create more ease and comfort in their daily routines while also getting a chance to hear their stories.”

When she’s not caregiving, Catt channels her creativity into music — she’s the lead singer of The Catt John Band 🎶 — and spends time with her three rescue dogs, Finn, Gallie, and Harpo 🐾

Catt is quickly proving to be a valued member of our team, and we’re grateful for the care, kindness, and heart she brings to the seniors and families she supports.

Thank you, Catt, for all that you do — we’re so lucky to have you!

Meet Al 💙

On National Certified Nurses Day, we’re proud to spotlight Al Luis, a nurse and an integral part of the Hillendale Home Care team.

Al’s passion for senior care is deeply personal. Growing up in a close-knit family and later helping care for his grandmother after a stroke shaped his belief that meaningful care is rooted in dignity, patience, and compassion. Those values guide everything he does today.

With a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and clinical experience gained internationally, along with years of healthcare and caregiving work in the U.S., Al brings both professional insight and heart to his role. Today, he uses that experience to thoughtfully recruit and support caregivers who serve seniors and their families with genuine care.

We’re grateful to have professionals like Al on our team: people who lead with empathy and make a difference every day.
