Our friends at Mt. Diablo Village invited us to speak at one of their MDV Learns events, and I walked away learning just as much!

I had the chance to present following David Benet from Mobility Matters, a fantastic resource providing rides for older adults.

And what makes Mt. Diablo Village so critical is that their volunteers may be the first to notice when someone could use need a little extra support. And when needs go beyond what they can offer, that’s where collaboration comes in to help people continue living safely and comfortably at home

This was meant to be an activity for residents… but the CNAs passing by may have enjoyed it just as much!

We brought herb sachet making to Shadelands Post Acute, and the calming scent of lavender, eucalyptus, and rose had staff stopping in for a quick moment of relaxation during their busy shifts.

We have such high respect and appreciation for CNAs. At Uplift Home Care, many of our caregivers are CNA-certified, and we see firsthand the skill and hard work they bring every day. Thankful to get to bring this activity to residents and staff alike!

Our caregiver Marie was traveling in the Philippines and had the chance to meet up with our scheduler Janice while she was in the neighborhood, what a small world!

We just love when special connections like this happen ❤️

Overnight care is another level of dedication, and Tawana our April Caregiver of the Month is one of our biggest overnight champions! She shows up again and again.

Because she works nights, we don’t get to see her as often. So recently, I waited for her in the lobby at a post-acute facility where she’s caring for one of our clients, to hand her a small treat bag before she started her overnight shift.

Originally from the South, Tawana’s warm personality, southern charm, and million dollar smile instantly puts people at ease. With over eight years of hands-on caregiving experience, Tawana supports her clients with skill and confidence. Even while balancing a full personal life and continuing her education, she remains incredibly dedicated, flexible, and reliable all while placing her clients' well-being at the heart of her caregiving.

Outside of work, she enjoys time with her family, reading, and trips to the beach. She loves the color pink and has the cutest coordinating set up scrubs I ever did see!

Tawana, we are so thankful for you. Congratulations on being our Caregiver of the Month!

It’s not every day you get to write an endorsement to the back of a book… let alone one that becomes a #1 bestseller on Amazon.

After getting a sneak peek before it went to print, it’s super exciting to now be holding the finished copy of "Borrowed Time" by Becky Reel of Reel Home Care Consulting.

From the very beginning, we connected with Becky and that connection is summed up perfectly in a section from the back of her book:

"This book is for those told they care too much, who can't separate their business from the people it serves, and who are tired of apologizing for their passion.

Your so-called weakness is your strength. The caring too much, the inability to let things go, the refusal to treat people like numbers, that’s not something to overcome. That’s the whole business."

Now, almost 1.5 years in, we’ve seen that this industry, and the adjacent healthcare space, isn’t always as warm or people-centered as it should be, which makes staying grounded in that belief even more important.

At Uplift Home Care, this is exactly what we strive to hold onto every single day.

Thank you, Becky, for continuing to support us and cheer us on!!

Spring break looks a little different around here.

While many families are off on trips and big adventures, our days tend to stay a little closer to home. Home care doesn’t exactly pause for school breaks.

This week, we had some special helpers join us for a morning in memory care at a community that’s very dear to us.

One brought her flute and filled the room with music, and the other led a little craft demo. We loved seeing them engage and share stories with the residents and we have a feeling these memories will end up being just as special to look back on as any trip ❤️

A big part of our boutique approach to care at Uplift is the client/caregiver matching process, especially when someone is stepping into ongoing care.

Taking the time to really understand the person behind the care needs and finding the right fit can make all the difference, especially in dementia care. A family we worked with recently shared this, and it meant a lot to our team:

It’s officially flower season! We spent time at The Kensington at Walnut Creek this month creating arrangements with Assisted Living residents, and last month with Memory Care. These ladies were naturals, they knew exactly what to do, it was such a fun way to bring in the Spring season!

Rare sighting over here.
Adam, Kirsten, and Marlene all in the same place at the same time at last week's Walnut Creek Senior Fair!

This is a boots on the ground industry with each of us all out in different directions at any given time, so moments like this don’t happen often.

Also, a little tip for our fellow small business owners: skip the expensive swag. Our secret weapon is a custom made logo stamp from Etsy. We stamp notebooks, bags, pretty much everything for a fraction of the cost!

Sensational Seniors did it again with a packed house at another fabulous event!

There’s one thing almost every home care agency owner has in common.

It’s not a background in healthcare. It's a WHY.

This week we had opportunity to share with the Walnut Creek Wellness Alliance the why behind what built Uplift Home Care.

When we were preparing to launch Uplift, Adam and I spent months talking to dozens of agency owners all over the country. What surprised us most was that there is no single path into home care. People came from finance, education, ministry, corporate America. The common denominator was not a resume. It was a why.

Almost everyone had been personally touched by care in some way. A loved one with dementia. A wonderful caregiver experience like we had with our grandmothers. Or sometimes a heartbreaking one that made them determined to do better.

It was a privilege to get to share our why, which centers around caregivers themselves and the deep respect we have for the work they do. To choose to care for someone during their most vulnerable moments is one of life's highest callings, and it’s a profession that deserves far more respect and recognition than it often receives.

At Uplift, we believe the best care happens when caregivers feel valued, supported, and appreciated for the important work they do. When caregivers feel that, the people they care for feel it too.
