I was talking to a long time friend who turned me on to a relationship workshop called "Third Option". One of the weeks is about redirecting your anger into something positive. Just as water has the power to drown a person or flooding can destroy a community, if it's channelled to turn turbines, it can create electricity and light up a city. That's how the hand casts began. I needed a place to channel my energy after my wife divorced me. I saw an older couple holding hands and it seemed especially romantic and I thought,"I could do that!" and the hand cast was born.

I went to a Bridal Show today, a first in quite some time. It was an eye opening experience. Some times to revisit an experience after some time has past is even more enlightening. There seem to be the same types of services offered and at an event such as this that's what couples are there for. I suspect they'll be encouraged to "invest" thousands of dollars in making their special day over the top spectacular. Imagine as my friend, Tom Haibeck wrote, you were planning to hike Mount Everest and the guides spent all of their energy on the bon voyage party and no effort at all on training for the physical part of the hike? As a matter of fact, given that 50 to 60 % of first-time marriages fail, and given the pain, the costs, the emotional trauma inflicted on the couple, the children it seems that a marital game plan for success would be in the interests of all concerned. More to come on this.

Marriage is not easy. It takes mutual love and caring and effort that is until it doesn't. Then it becomes so rich and wonderful and deep. You re each other's own best friends.
