✨ Fix These 7 Mistakes & Elevate Your Sound Practice ✨

We are proud to be AHNA-accredited for 40.5 CNEs — offering evidence-based sound therapy training for practitioners and healthcare providers. 🌿

This series shared the 7 most common mistakes in sound healing — from playing too forcefully, to ignoring your energetic state, to skipping proper instrument care. Each one can be fixed with awareness, adaptability, and attention to detail.
Sound healing is both an art and a science. Small adjustments — like sequencing instruments with intention, adapting to the space, or keeping bowls and drums well cared for — can transform a session from ordinary to extraordinary.

🎼 Mistake #7: Skipping Instrument Care 🎼

Poorly maintained instruments lose their power. Dusty bowls sound dull, worn mallets distort tones, and drums left in heat or damp conditions can warp or crack. Even forgetting to empty water after tuning bowls can change the sound over time. Neglect shortens an instrument’s life — and weakens the session.

✨ The Fix:
• Clean bowls regularly and use proper mallets.
• Always empty water after tuning.
• Protect drums with cases and avoid extreme temperatures.
• Store and travel with proper protection to preserve resonance.

Cared-for instruments = brighter tones, longer life, and a more professional experience for your clients.

👉 Save this for your sound bath toolkit.

Dear Community,

The Kailukuan School of Indigenous Science was born from a Divine call to reclaim ancestral knowledge and restore Indigenous ways of knowing. I was honored to steward this vision into form. As this chapter comes to completion, its spirit continues through the KIN Global Arts Collective, where sound, culture, and community remain at the center.

With the launch of our cultural culinary and concert series, Karayán House, on November 1, we begin a new chapter - the soft opening of the KIN Global Arts Collective. All proceeds from this gathering will directly support our start up, building a robust cultural arts experience at our new community space.

This vision is rooted in a simple but profound truth: our search for identity lies not in what was lost, but in what has survived. Our study in sound brings us here. Across all Indigenous cultures, its sacred art forms have always been the bridge between worlds - the connection to greater consciousness, to Spirit, to Nature, to one another. The beat of the drum, the resonance of the voice, the movement of the body, the food and craftwork of every culture were not just expressions of life - they were expressions of the heart in right relationship to nature.

I am deeply grateful to each of you who has walked with me in this journey. I invite you now to join me in this new chapter - to honor the ancestors, uplift the living, and plant the medicine for those yet to come.

I personally invite you to join us for dinner on Nov 1 at Karayán House by KIN Global Arts Collective.

With love and reverence,
Janelle P. Corpuz

💜 Mistake #6: Not Attuning to Client Needs 💜

Every participant is different. Sudden chimes may startle trauma survivors, deep gongs may overwhelm those with sensory sensitivities, and some clients may not be able to sit still or fully relax. Ignoring these differences means people can leave unsettled — or worse, feeling unsupported.

✨ The Fix:
• Intake matters: ask about sensitivities and comfort levels.
• Watch body language and breathing during the session.
• Be adaptable — not every session can be cookie cutter.
• If a client can’t lie still, shift into active meditation or gentle play.
• The mark of an astute practitioner is flexibility, not forcing people into a mold.
Adapting in real time builds trust — and ensures every client gets the best session for their needs.

👉 Save this as a reminder for your next session.
👉 Tag a facilitator who needs to hear this.

🏛️ Mistake #5: Not Adapting to Your Space 🏛️

Sound behaves differently everywhere. In a small room, loud playing can overwhelm. Outdoors, subtle tones get lost in the noise. And in large rooms with many participants, your instruments alone may not carry — without mics or a PA, people in the back miss the experience.

✨ The Fix:
• Test the space before every session.
• Find the “sweet spot” in the room.
• Adjust volume and instrument choices to fit the acoustics.
• Use client placement and room shape to your advantage.
• In bigger spaces, don’t hesitate to use amplification for clarity.

Adapting to your environment ensures the sound holds everyone in balance, no matter the setting.

👉 Save this to prep for your next sound bath.
👉 Tag a facilitator who needs this reminder.

🌿 Mistake #4: Ignoring Your Own Energetic State 🌿

Even if your technique is perfect, if you’re anxious, distracted, or in “performance mode,” that scattered energy transmits through the sound. Clients can feel it — leaving them restless or disconnected instead of relaxed.

✨ The Fix:
• Remember: you are the instrument.
• Take time before every session to breathe, ground, and set intention.
• Enter a meditative state first — when you’re calm and centered, participants naturally entrain to your vibration.

I teach a specific protocol for this called Chromonyasa Sound Technique, which helps facilitators drop into the meditative state their clients need to follow.

👉 Save this as a reminder for your next session.
👉 Tag a sound healer who could use this tip.
