Molly Skomurski is NEDS’ Learning Management Systems Administrator under the wonderful NEDS Education and Learning team! Molly has been with NEDS since April 2024. She was interested in working at NEDS because of her non-profit background and because of the organization's commitment to its mission and its support for employee growth. It is very prominent to Molly that everyone at NEDS is passionate about their role, whether they are clinical or corporate staff. Molly has learned so much about organ and tissue donation at NEDS while being surrounded by her great team!

“Being able to work with such talented learning and development professionals and seeing how we all utilize our skills to push employees to grow within our organization is one of the many reasons I love working at NEDS.”

Kara Kubiskey, Molly’s manager, reiterated Molly's great work by saying, “Molly has been an integral part of the ELA team since starting at NEDS. She is currently taking the lead on implementation for new TalentEd features to enhance learning experiences for our teams. Her thoughtful approach, curiosity, and dedication shines through in everything she does.”

Thank you, Molly, for all the amazing work you do for NEDS!

In December 2022, Kathie Neyman became a non-directed kidney donor! Now Kathie and her husband, Henry, will be members of Team New England and will be competing on the team in Colorado this summer!

“My journey to become a non-directed kidney donor at age 63 began quite by accident after reading a post on Facebook by someone in need of a kidney. I shared their story, asking my Facebook friends to consider the donation, and several hours later began feeling guilty that I would ask someone to donate, when the thought of becoming a living kidney donor never crossed my mind. To ease my guilt, I completed a quick health questionnaire, thinking that surely I would be too old for consideration.”

“To my surprise, I was not too old to become a living donor, and so began the extensive process to become a living donor. The more I researched the procedure and outcome of the donation surgery, the more invested I became in the process. I also learned more about kidney disease and the dire need for kidney donors in our country. Over 94,000 people are on the organ waiting list for a new kidney, and many will die before receiving a life-saving kidney. If there was a way I could help someone regain their health, I wanted to do it. I'll never forget the happiness I felt after four months of extensive testing revealed that I qualified to become a living donor! What a great feeling knowing that I could help someone in this way.”

“On December 20, 2022, at the age of 63, I donated my right kidney to a stranger. Truly one of the best experiences of my life!”

“I am eager to represent Team New England at the 2026 Transplant Games in Denver. I am super excited to meet other kidney donors, organ recipients, and family and support members, where together we will celebrate the gift of life. I will be competing against other living donors in pickleball, backstroke, and team trivia. My husband, Henry Skoog, will also be representing Team New England in a category for family support members. He was an amazing supporter through the entire donation and recovery process and believes wholeheartedly in the importance of organ donation. He will bring his mad pickleball skills to the courts and will dazzle at Team Trivia with his knowledge of random facts about science and geology. We are ready to have fun in Denver and celebrate life!”

Thank you, Kathie and Henry, for being a part of Team New England to advocate for donation!

“In December, my mother, Maria, was able to give the gift of life to multiple people who, in that moment, needed it, just as she wished to do. My mom was an incredibly selfless person and helped anyone, whether they asked or not. So much so that she became a CNA, and she loved every part of her job. She mainly did home care for older clients, and she would call me often asking if I could please lend her my nail polishes, flat iron, and blow dryer so that she could doll them up. She also grieved them whenever they passed.”

“My mom had an incredibly big heart and loved her friends and family very much; we all knew it, but it makes me happy that even in death, she was able to give what little she had left to help others. My mom had a rather hard life. She was a very young mother; by the age of 28, she had 4 children whom she cared for as best she could. We may not have had everything we wanted, but we sure had everything we needed. She made sure to instill her good values.”

“My mom had put on her license that she wanted to donate her organs, and by making that decision herself, I felt better because I didn't have to make the decision for her.”

“I’m grateful for all the help, letters, and books sent from New England Donor Services Aftercare during the first year and the opportunity to share my mom’s story.”

Thank you, Marianjeliz, for sharing about your mom.

After his passing, Brooke Sullivan’s father was able to give the Gift of Life and save three people’s lives.

“We found out that my father had been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Connective Tissue Disease. It progressed to the point that he was no longer able to breathe on his own. He was placed on a ventilator and flown to Boston, where we began the process of getting him on the list for a double lung transplant. Unfortunately, due to the severity of his disease, he was found to not be a viable candidate for a transplant.”

“Thursday, I flew to Boston to begin the next stages for end-of-life care. Before that began, I was given the option of donating any other organs he’d qualify for to save someone else. My father wasn’t able to have a second chance — But I received a call that three individuals do in my father's honor:
A male in his 30s has a new liver.
A male in his 60s has a new kidney.
A male in his 50s also has a new kidney.”

“It’s no secret that my father and I haven’t had a great relationship since I was young. But through this, there have been silver linings and forgiveness.”

“I want to acknowledge the outstanding care and compassion of Massachusetts General Hospital and New England Donor Services through this entire experience.”

Thank you, Brooke, for sharing about your father.
