Continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT) is often used in the management of critically ill patients with acute kidney injury, particularly those who are hemodynamically unstable. These patients often exhibit disorders in acid-base status. In this seminar, experienced faculty will provide insight into patient-and treatment-associated factors contributing to such disorders and potential measures that may help guide appropriate clinical management. Reducing therapy downtime requires effective anticoagulation, which should be carefully managed to meet therapeutic goals and avoid exacerbation of underlying disorders or introducing new complications. Our expert panel will discuss key underpinnings of the management of patients receiving CKRT and common challenges related to anticoagulation and acid-base management. This interactive discussion will feature case presentations and provide you with an opportunity to ask questions regarding your own challenging scenarios related to anticoagulation and acid-based management in critically ill patients with AKI.

At Fresenius Medical Care, we are people caring for people — our patients and each other. When severe storms swept across northeastern Mexico and south Texas, more than 750 of our Fresenius Medical Care colleagues were affected by the devastation.

Among them was Alma, a payroll supervisor in Mexico, whose home and vehicle sustained significant damage. Like many people, she faced the daunting task of recovery. That’s when Alma turned to the CARES Fund — Fresenius Medical Care’s global employee hardship fund — available to employees when they need it most.

“The financial support was essential in dealing with the disasters caused by the storm,” she shared. “With the assistance the CARES Fund provided, I was able to repair the damage to my home and vehicle. I feel fortunate to belong to the great Fresenius Medical Care team."

Throughout the year, we will continue to share stories like this, because “care” isn’t just in our name; it’s who we are.
