We are The Arc, not “The ARC.” Our name changed in 2013 to move away from the harmful “r-word” that was once represented in the original acronym. Language matters. Alongside our sister Chapters of The Arc, we stand for dignity, inclusion, and respect—because the only “r-word” that truly matters is respect.

We believe in the power of community impact, and so we partner and support other local non profits in the work they do. We also appreciate when those partners help us out by educating their folks on why we are no longer using our original name/acronym.

With the R word coming back into mainstream media last week, we hope this serves as a reminder that the word is no longer accepted, tolerated, or appreciated, and should not be used!

Advocates across the state join at the NYS Capitol to call on to enact our CareForce Affordability Agenda and financial protections for the I/DD community, including our staff who work hard to support New Yorkers with disabilities.
It’s time to make our voices heard and ensure providers and staff have the resources they need to deliver quality care.

This past Saturday’s Fall Dance was an absolute blast! Thank you to everyone who came out and filled the room with so much joy and energy. Thank you to Walton First Baptist Church for hosting such a fantastic event and for all of the delicious treats!

From the first song to the last, FLAME The Band had the whole room moving! The energy was incredible, and everyone had such a great time.

Events like this remind us how special our community is. Thank you for showing up, shining bright, and making memories with us.
